Two really good Tele players that are sadly no longer with us. Both of them had their own way of squeezin' out those bends and drippin' tone soaked notes from their Telecasters.

It's a tough call, but I'm going with Danny for the performing factor edge and if you've never seen his 'beer bottle' slide playin', try checkin' out fellow forum member Tele295's site to view the clip and others. 8)

Danny would have been 63 on his birthday next week.

Both were amazing players, and having to choose is like having to choose between which Olsen twin looks better...

And there may not be too many votes because unfortunately, most people don't know about these great players...

Hello Miami Mike, how are you? To answer to your question I'd say that to a lousy player like me, it is impossible to play like them because they were virtuosos. I am relatively new to electric guitar playing, and in my way of learning I tend to learn a little bit of this and that. Basically what I prefer to do is jamming over a song, and try to imitate or catch a few tricks from the masters. SSSo...for me they were both masters at what they did but I don't know them well enough to choose one over the other.

Cheers.

Roy has a slight edge over Danny so far. Where is fellow forum member Tele295 when you need him.

I say both were equally amazing players.

Check this pic out. You don't see many pictures of Danny Gatton playing a Les Paul!

Yes, mine never lasted more than a few weeks without making crackling sounds with every move I made. They looked good, though . . . in their day anyway.

Albert Collins called himself the Master of the Telecaster and, as much as I love Albert, that title truly belongs to Danny and Roy. I don't want to choose between the two.

I agree on those cables, which are now reappearing and at a not-too-cheap price. :?

There are countless great Telemasters from Jimmy Bryant to current players, but due to the relationship and similiar stories of Gatton and Buchanan, I chose them to see who was most popular. It IS a tough decision, but I gave my vote to Danny for his showmanship. 8)

I'm probably gonna get blasted here but from what I've seen/heard of Buchanan, there's no contest - it's Gatton by far. I'm going thru all the YouTube vids of Roy and he sounds like the Ventures with a few Roy Clark type gimmicks. (I mean, single string vibrato slides? "Walk Don't Run" circa 1964? Heck, I can even do that!) Gatton incorporated finger style and straight pickin. His chord work was brilliant. He mastered not only blues but Chicken' Pickin' , rock and jazz, and melded all those styles together in an amazingly intricate and original fashion.

If someone can link me to a vid or soundbite that shows what Buchanan can really do, I would love to see/hear it. But from what I've heard, the guy seems very ordinary.

I think Roy's first two albums were his best. He sounded really good when i saw him "live" but I gave the nod to Danny for all around perormance and showmanship.

I voted for both, yet if I had to choose I would go for Gatton cause I like his stuff a tad bit more, but that has nothing to do with their actual playing, its just about my preferences. I enjoy them both, wish they were still here
Telemasters!!!!
