I am getting a noise that sounds like static which occurs in the neck and middle position only. It is only occurs when picking(on initial attack, does not occur if pick is just resting on strings. It also only occurs when picking D through high E. I don't hear it with the low E and A string. I am hoping this is not an issue with the pick up itself and either a bad solder joint somewhere or grounding issue. If anyone has experienced this issue and has an idea what it may be I would greatly appreciate their help.
Thanks
Lou

No easy to help you without seeing and listening guitar;

Is your amp and house wall outlet have a good / working ground ?
Try guitar and amp in other room ,best in other house.
Try with another amp.
Try another guitar.

Put Off cell phone, PC, halogen and neon lamps

I don’t even own an amp right now. I am playing through a helix stomp and sometimes straight in to a universal audio interface. But I have a Boss multi track recorder with a guitar input that can run on battery power and the issue still exists with that. I have also switched out cables. There is just one incandescent bulb lighting the room. It’s very discernible when recording. It comes through on the initial transient. I am going to take my pick guard off and open the control cavity open to check connections but was hoping to have an idea of what to look for

Issue may come from you Audio Interface equipment and/ or power supply and / or ground loop or.......

Under the control plate and under the pickguard.
Unless you know guitar wiring or electronic you won't see anything.
If you do, post good picture.

The best way is find a amp to test. No friends with amps ? No store in your area you can test drive a amp

I do have a small practice amp I can try and I will post pictures when I open it up. I have replaced pickups in another tele with Joe Bardens with no issues but that was more paint by numbers, I have no real electronics experience but I can solder. Could it be the pickup as my bridge pickup is fine and the low E and A strings are not an issue on the neck pickup

I don't know without seeing the guitar.
Are you sure it is a static ? It is not hiss ?
A bad pickup is bad on all strings .

The first thing to do is to test guitar on you small practice amp.

I had this happen with a Squier Vintage Vibe Custom Telecaster.
The issue is one of lack of continuity of screening, and the static is caused at the boundary of the guard and the "shield".

The video in this link demonstrates what I mean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2PoPZ9OcMA&t=7s

I was going to post pictures but could not figure it out. there does not appear to be any connection issues. If I eas to shield my pick guard where exactly would I run the the wire to the shield from?

Does the neck pickup have a metal cover?
You could solder a wire to the point where the cover connects to the ground, and put the bared other end of the wire to where it contacts the foil shield.
It does depend on how good your soldering skills are, and whether you have the confidence to mess about with contacts on the pickups.
If in doubt, leave it alone!

You could pull another wire through the cable routings, solder it onto the back of the volume pot.
Bared other end to contact the foil on the pickguard.

You could even just run a wire through to the control cavity, bare it both ends, and postion the control cavity end to contact the plate as you screw it back on, and to contact the foil as you put the pickguard back on.

If you haven't got a DMM get one, and learn how to perform a continuity check.

The static issue would show up no matter what your guitar is plugged into.

You are right ...if it is static, we never hear and see the guitar.

I often read on the user forum, despite all their good will, to describe in an erroneous way, what they have as problem.
Finally the problem was quite different.

It is so easy and fast to try on his guitar amp and we can move on :)

I have tried the guitar through an amp( albeit a small practice amp. Issue is still there . Sorry I don’t post in a more timely manner but having a wife and kids and working over 80 hours a week does not leave a lot of extra time. I took pictures but couldn’t figure out how to post them from my phone as I sit on the commode while writing this post. I didn’t spit any obvious issues but once I can order up some foil tape and ground it using one of the methods described I will report back. In the meantime I will try to post a recorded sample if I can figure out how the $@!& to do it
