Saw something the other day and applied to this. Refers to use of controls. For country twang, elect bridge pickup, tone knob full on, back off volume to about 3/4 full. Amp is M3v2 set to Beauty Clean (has a little reverb).
Worked for me. Regards, Ross

Twang refers to staccato. Or if you will more of a percussive effect. Listen to Brad Paisley, Jon Jorgensen, Vince Gill, Albert Lee.

Twang is achieved by muting the string at the same time as it is being plucked. You can mute with either your fingers or your picking / plucking hand. But the best result is from using a finger style such as Travis picking or listen to Chet Atkins. Mark Knopfler is a good example of a crossover player, so is Keith Urban.

While fingerpicking you are striking the string almost simultaneously with your nail and immediately following with the fleshy part of the finger.

The same effect can be achieved on a Strat with the combo of Mid/Bridge or Mid/neck pups but the construction of a Tele, the way the bridge picup is set into the tailpiece and the boxiness of a Tele design, add a maple neck gives that funky sonority.
