I was trying to barter price on this listing:

https://reverb.com/item/25362549-fender ... _sold=true

Looks like it sold at asking price for $4800 :(

Can someone explain why this sold for 1000 more than similar custom shops?
Also, has anyone seen this paint job around before? I'd love to try and find another one.

I’m trying to figure this out as well. I can’t say I see what the used market thinks of these guitars yet or the collectors market either. They’re making many of them. I think it comes down to personal desire and aesthetics.

I have a Rick Thorn quilted master built custom HH and a 52 heavy relic butterscotch custom shop. I chose them for sound first and looks second. The Thorn is 5/13 made. Maybe this holds some value?

I think you need to love both at these prices.

I think it’s become clear to me after hanging out in the custom shop room at Guitar Center NYC that they’re all sounding different model.

There are probably 100 reasons. At the end of the day any guitar is only worth what someone will pay on that day. Perhaps the buyer had one like it before and really wanted another one. Perhaps they didn't know they could get it cheaper. Perhaps they wanted it there and then. The list could go on and on.

Dealer selected color option as stated in the add.
Doubt you will find another unless requested.
Prices in Europe are higher the dealer takes a gamble the guitar will sell and looks like in this case it did.
Personally I am not a fan of faux heavy relicing but each to their own. :D

I like a plausible relic but, unusually for Fender Custom Shop, this just crosses the line into "Nah, that wouldn't happen" for me.
