Is anybody running flat wound strings? If so, how do they sound? I'm thinking about trying a set on my 08 MIA Standard. What about pros that use them? Who can I check out to get a feel for there sound?

I wouldn't buy any strings that aren't nickel wound. The stainless steel strings will wear down & beat up your frets quicker!

Hello ITL15,

I have never used them
on a telecaster,

Sometimes on my Strat,
I'll use 11's, good oldtime jazz tone.
I suppose you could expect
something along those lines.

As for an artist I don't
have a clue.

Cheers.

I use Dean Markley Flatwounds on all my guitars. I love the tone which is fuller and a little more thump to it. I have had no issues with frets wearing down.

I use flat wounds on my jazz guitars but my friend who has way more guitars than i loves the flatwounds and he puts them all his guitars so everything from les pauls to teles and everything else. caution for flatwounds: they are more expensive thand nickel wound and slide playing is a whole different feel on flawounds.

Flatwound strings will sound quite dull in comparison to roundwounds. Great for jazz, but no finely defined clarity .Their main advantage lies in there being no "squeaks" when you slide your fingers over them during moderate and fast playing. They also last a while since they don't have gaps betweeen the windings which, on roundwounds, get clogged with muck from your fingers, which in turn dulls the tone.
