Hello all .I've just acquired a telecaster with quite a bit of rust on the bridge pup. so I'm wondering if it is salvageable, if so what is the treatment? Are there any associated components that are likely to be dangerous with regard to the visible symptoms? All help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sooner or later you are going to have dirty, rusting, corroded bridge saddles and parts that no longer want to move. This happens because of wear, sweat (from your hands) and just corrosion. Some parts might be beyond repair, but most can be saved. Many bridges, saddles, screws, and springs end up getting junked when a little care and cleaning could most likely bring them back to working shape.

I use naptha. Pour some into a jar and apply a wet coat to the saddles, screws, springs, etc...use a small brush that has stiff bristles like a toothbrush. Now when you use naptha remember that you are using a flammable liquid use CAUTION and a well-ventilated area!

I've never had any luck removing rust on guitar parts. Just replace them.

It's okay, because the ball is on a string and attatched to the cup.

Thanks for your interest. I will try freeing up the saddle but some of the grub screws are likely past it. The pup did clean up ok though.

Again, thanks guys. Clain0
