Joe Walsh used a Telecaster on the whole first James Gang album, plus used it on the 2nd album and also the 3rd album. You can hear his Tele on the song Walk Away!

Who says? I thought he was a Paul man? I don't mean I doubt you, I just want to where you got your info - I'd love to know if Joe actually used a Tele on Funk #49.

He also played a Les Paul but on the first 3 James Gang albums it was a Telecaster. You can even see him with the Telecaster on the first James Gang album called James Gang Yer album. On the 4th album James Gang Live In Concert (Carnegie Hall) is where he started using the Paul. Walk Away on the Live album is done on the Paul.

I've heard that none of Joe Walsh's guitars are stock. All have been modified to some extent. :?:

You can definitely hear the Fender bite of the Tele. He has it cranked. You'll see him with the Tele on the first album if you look. And definitely you can hear that Fender bite sound on the 3rd album, James Gang Thirds. I mean you can't mistaken it for a Gibson at all. The Fender sound is there. You can hear the bite of the Fender that the Gibson wouldn't have.

Go to this link and look up #10-
http://www.guitarplayer.com/article/10-things-you/apr-07/27270

He is best known for playing Les Pauls, and has voiced a preference for them--as do I (sorry--the shape & feel of a Tele does nothing for me, but I won't insult Teles since so much good music has been played on one--particularly by Roy Buchanan.)

Saw Joe Walsh on that classic hit TV show in the 70s playing Rocky Mountain Way on the show called "The Midnight Special." Wolfman Jack usually hosted this show. Walsh was playing "Rocky Mountain Way" on a Les Paul Custom. This is after the James Gang Live In Concert album (Carnegie Hall) when he switched over to Les Pauls.
