I'm upgrading the pups in my mim tele, and I've read a lot of good reviews about the Bill Lawrence Keystone pups. Anyone have any experience? I also am drawn towards custom Texas specials, I like the idea of having a little more oomph and snap. Either way, I really want something very different from my EJ strat. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I too have heard nothing but good reviews on the Keystones. And for the price, you can't go wrong.

I have also heard only good about all the Bill Lawrence pickups but I just bought a set of Tonerider pickups for my Tele. Awesome price and sound! Check out [tonerider.com].[/url]

I recently had the BL keystone strat calibrated set put in my 2003 MIM strat. They are great! I'd say they are similar but better than Custom Shop CS Fat 50s or 54s in tonal feel but I think I can get more out of these and get them a little hotter while keeping classic tone if needed too. When I just had them put in and the guitar shielded/setup up by one of the best guitar techs in my area ( Paul iverson - vancouver) and he was raving about the quality of the pickups. He thought the tempered spacing was the best he'd ever seen in a calibrated set of pickups. With the budget price is a little bit of funkyness with order - just email editor@juno.com or google for an ebay page on Bill Lawrence. But they come in a simple (no instructions/no writing of any kind) bubble wrapped envelope in 2 weeks, as promised. All wax-impregnated, heat-treated formvar magnet wired, precision tuned, resin-filled and temper spaced beauties.

I'm still playing them out and getting used to them but so far, I love them. Let me know if you have any specific questions. But my advise is at the price, get them while you can, my feeling is BL is sick of the big BL company, so decided to do this simple on his own with all his gather equipment over the years ( hence some of the stealth buying procedure. The worry if you wait too long is, he might be inclined to bring these out in a big way which COULD change the low price, no market, hand production aspect that makes this so nice. I was thinking about buying a second set just to know I have the original made keystones for future needs. Be mind full that this is just web forum speculation on my and other folks part.
