MIM Standard Tele should run $400 or less--Sam Ash, Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, etc. The Strats and the Teles seem to be priced about the same, actually. So the standard MIM Tele and Strat are both $400, etc.

Look for a lite ash, it can create some great tones...

If you've got a Strat coming, you should probably get a Tele with a humbucker, so that you can get a wider range of sounds. I'd suggest a 72 Custom Reissue. This is otherwise known as the Keef Richards guitar... 8)

I don't know if you can get MIM versions of this guitar, but you can get Crafted in Japan versions (which are really good) on eBay for the money you wish to spend.

Here's what they look like....

The Made in Mexico Standards are nice for the price. I also really like the American made Highway One Series Telecasters
