Hi guys
So doing my first real partscaster build got a 2004 tele body ordering a neck soon. The body is blue and I’m wanting to do a butterscotch relic finish. I’m thinking hairdryer scrap and sand to give a blank canvas. Then I don’t know what to do. Would grain filler, primer and then a nitrocellulose finish be okay? And then relic it from there. Would that work?
A bit of help in right direction would be really appreciated. Thank you

The trouble with an original solid colour body is Fender uses the best looking bodies for transparent finishes and puts aside the less attractive grain, and timber matching, for solid colour. You might strip off the blue to find a body that only looks good covered in blue.

Or worse... Bondo.
Guitar manufacturers use plastic body filler to fill dings and router chipout all the time.

If the '04 has a poly finish, a hairdryer and sandpaper is not going to get the job done. The hairdryer will overheat and blow out the thermal fuse long before it softens the paint. Ya, I did it, and it was apparently quite entertaining when a bald guy was trying to pick out a good hair dryer at Walmart.
