Hey everybody,

I was recently given this guitar by my father when he was cleaning out his old house. He told me stories of playing it as well as letting me hear some old tapes.

I am not a guitarist nor have I ever picked one up, so unfortunately, I do not know much about guitars, their make-ups, and worth. I believe it is a 66, but I do not know if all of the pieces are originals and how they would affect worth. I was suggested to come here because what better audience to ask then the enthusiasts themselves.

It definitely has wear and tear to it, so it's clearly not in the greatest of conditions.
Thanks in advance for any help you could give me.

I'm no expert but I can't see anything that immediately looks wrong to me.

You might have a guitar of significant value on your hands. It is a shame the switch is broken and I don't understand the strange stripes in the finish but otherwise you could be into 5 figures (?) with the right buyer.

Unfortunately it looks like its been re-painted (those stripes at least). The base color(under the bridge/guard) looks really white, maybe Olympic White but would have to see in person to be sure.
According to my 2014 blue book, it is about a 50% condition wise unless there is damage not shown in the posted photo's due to the repaint as far as collectability.
So in saying that it looks like a fine otherwise(maybe even 90% condition excellent) example of a 66' and should be worth $3,500-$6,500(50% of book value, w/ slight adjustment for 2019) IMO unless your father was a famous musician that could add significant value.
You may find someone to pay more but unlikely a dealer would.
If your in a city that has a good vintage guitar shop maybe take it by on a weekend and have them check it out, maybe they'll make an offer.

Finish looks like he used strips of tape as stripes, left them on for a long time, then peeled them off. Or some odd scenario where it spent a lot of time in the sun with some slatted thing on top of it.

Looks like original finish, just with unusual sun discoloration.

Could be worse. Most stickers leave weird random amoeba shaped light spots, or rectangle/square light spots. This looks like a design. It hurts the value, but nowhere near as bad as a refinish.

Kinda looks cool.

Thanks for all of the replies. My father admitted to giving it a paint job back in the day when he got it, hence the stripes.

I had a friend who plays take it apart and look over its functionality. This was his review: original fret board, pots, capacitors, pickups, body, neck, and bridge. Strings are not. Needs a new selector switch, current one is original and functional with a little repair; however, looks to be damaged and glued back together.
