Hey everyone, just reading some of the suggestions for my build. It is a one-piece body, solid mahogany. If the 50's isnt the best direction to go due to period incorrect make, which direction should I go? Or should i just let my imagination run? As stated before, this is my first full build and I want it to be done right as it's a father-son build and I want it to last a lifetime. I promise I will post pictures as progress is made! Thanks for all the help!

It's a Partscaster, and Fender never used mahogany on a production body, only custom shop.
You aren't building something that will ever have any resale value, so build what you want using parts that you want. If you don't like it or something doesn't work, change it.
It's your build and you are the one who is going to be playing it for the next 40 years.

It's a father son build, that should be enough encouragement to get creative juices flowing.
Nothing wrong w/ a mahogany body, especially a nice one piece.
Any Tele style layout should be a good path.
standard- 2x singles
custom- single bridge bucker neck
dlx custom- 2x buckers, 2x tone, 2x volume, toggle selector(more in routing work [through body knobs/switch] and more difficult drilling)

My intention wasn't to restrict anything with that mahogany/period comment.

But how about the other way around. In stead of getting a period correct body, why not think of a dream Telecaster based on the body you have, neverminding the decades. What kind of music will (mostly) be played might be a good starting point.

And actually, I'd like to know more general info about the goal, background & such; giving advice would be easier.
As in, how old is your son (that's a reference to that mahogany bodies are sometimes quite heavy...).

In reply to the father/son question, I'm the son. I've been playing since about the age of 6 and I'm 21 now. My father is a carpenter and has been his whole life. We got the idea for the project after joking about building one from scratch using his carpentry and woodworking skills and my general knowledge of guitars. We decided on a tele design because it's my dream guitar. Thanks you all for the help!! Pics will be posted when I start making progress on it!

Well ... not never.
There have actually been a small number of production models with mahogany bodies.

The 2017 American Professional Mahogany Telecaster Ltd.
At GuitarCenter

The 2019 Rarities Red Mahogany Top Telecaster
At Fender

The Jim Root Telecaster
At Fender

To name a few ...

I'm not sure why I never noticed this before but your handle, CB91710...
Is that a reference to a storied German racecar of the early 70s by any chance?

I have a couple of Honda CB750 project bikes (that never went anywhere) and my zip code.

Ah. OK.
I had a CB750F SuperSport that was a blast to ride back in the day.

If you like stories about celebrated racecars you should Google the Porsche 917 10.
