This would make it from the first decade of MiM production (as far as I can see) things seem to have improved significantly. Aside any sort of link to the history of the brand etc. I am inclined to think a modern one would be better. Potentially a Squier might be better.

Agreed. Get a new one. You will be way happier with it.

Just for fun, I'll bring the second opinion. Do not take this absolutely seriously, but food for thought wise.

A MIM Tele survivor from the early nineties. Full of mojo, most likely it's been played and set up, probably has had all troubles (if there were any) fixed during this quarterofacentury. Depending on the situation in the Mexican factory, there lingers a slight chance some US woods/parts landed on just that particular guitar. Anyways, it's an indivual - no other guitar has the same history, dings & scratches, mojo. (Yea, I repeated that.)

A MIM brand new Telecaster. A mass production instrument. The Player series just had the bridge redesigned, so what other parts are flawed? Complaints of QC issues in the web - is it all just smoke without fire? Anyone may have a similar guitar, even the obnoxious neighbor kid. Setup from the factory, oh yeah.

Now, a pre-CBS Tele might arguably be built with lower "standards" than the current MIA ones, but do we say "newer is better" with those?

And "you'll be way happier" is quite a burden for a poor little brand new Tele...

Not wishing to heresay Mr Mattis but I have an early MiM Tele and, in honesty, it isn't very good. It is in almost as new condition but it has so many (not as nice as new) features that I really don't like it. But, being almost museum quality, I feel reluctant to adapt it, or sell it.

For a start it is heavy, it is a top loader, it has the old style shaped neck pocket with a bump at the bottom, it has small pots and a small cavity to match. Did I mention it was heavy; I hate heavy guitars.

I may yet put the body, controls and bridge in a box and use the neck and PUP's in a build. That way I could resurrect the original in the future if such a thing were to increase in value. But considering the guitar cost me £300 and I would then be looking to sink another £300+ (body parts and lacquer) I could buy a guitar as good for £600. And the neck is OK but not really killer.
