Hello everyone, I want to buy a new telecaster, either the player telecaster or the american performer.

I would like to know what are the main differences between these 2 guitars, and is it worth to buy the performer.

Anyhow, I will change the pickups to get a DiMarzio or Seymour Duncan (Bridge and Neck)

Thank you ! :)

I'd go with the MiA as it has a "proper" Telecaster bridge and vintage style machine heads. I much prefer being able to poke the strings down the middle of the tuners as it is faster and gives a reasonable chance of reusing the same string if you have to release it from the tuner.

I think a Telecaster should have the original vintage style bridge because it is part of what makes it a Telecaster.

MiMs are great guitars but MiA's have a certain Mojo. If you don't buy one now you will eventually.

And finally, while it shouldn't be a thing (and it shouldn't matter anyway...but), there are those that will consider you less of a guitarist because "You only have a MiM". If it says Made in America they will have no idea if it is a $1000 guitar or $3000 guitar and if you are a serious musician you would be looking for the best tool for the job.

Both are excellent.

I own the American Professional AND the MIM Player Telecasters (maple board on the Am Pro and Pau Ferro on the Player).

The Am Pro is a better guitar, with the rolled edges of the neck most noticeable. That said, it was more than double the price and it should be better.

The Player is actually more impressive when you consider what you get for your money; it really is better than it has any right to be.

I have had many Telecasters over the years - all nice instruments. However the Telecaster Performer Hum (sea foam green) is the best Telecaster I've had. It just sounds fantastic and is incredibly versatile with the coil tap option in the humbucker. The only issue is the humbucker is microphonic to a significant degree. It clicks through the amp if I touch the cover with my pick. I inquired about this and was told by Fender that to get the pickup to sound like they wanted it - the pickup was not potted...therefore microphonia is to be expected. They offered a replacement humbucker with less of this but I'm fearful that would change the sound of this terrific instrument. Anyone else had a problem with this?
