In the throws of replacing a bent tuner with a good one.
Want to grease the replacement before fitting.
Is it possible to remove the cover to service?
Haven't attempted and can't find anything on internet search.

Every tuning machine I've ever seen coming from the factory is greased, so unless you bought a second hand replacement, there is no need for adding lube.
Besides, usually you can use spray grease of your preference to do the job.

Generally, I wouldn't recommend disassembling tuners, but use the bent one for practicing if you absolutely must.

Apply some heat and bend it back straight, not to many moving parts but a PITA to dis and re assemble.

I really wouldn't. The amount of heat required to make the metal anything close to pliable will boil the grease and burn the finish. It will ruin the tuner completely IMHO. If you have a really sharp jewellers gas torch you might manage something but may also obtain heat so localised that you introduce an abrupt counter bend in original long bend. YMMV.

Personally, I'd keep the original in a box, so you still have the original, and replace it.

I bought a replacement tuner - an original 1970s, but it wasnt turning smoothly. In my innocence assumed the cover would come off and soaked it in petrol. As suggested I've carefully squirted spray grease down the shaft to lube it now.

Flushing out the old grease was probably no bad thing. How is it now?

Well it turns freely, feels like it should be firmer but see how it is fitted under load when I replace the strings.

Tuner fitted. Was quite loose but seemed to tighten as the tension increased. Anyway it's on should be ok. Think it'll wear in. Sits slightly higher than the others.
