Well I pulled the trigger on this little gem. I was hesitant at first regarding the authenticity of her, but with the help of some of the forum members and some due dilligence I was able to determine it was legit.

Here she is. My first tele. I got her for a great price, IMO. A 2002 Mexican standard in agave blue. The tuners have been replaced with Fender locking and the bridge pickup has been replaced with a Seymour Duncan hot stack. I'm going to play it for a while before I make a decision on swapping the pickup back to something more "original". The frets are smaller than what I am used to but I can get used to them.

Wow! early 20 years old and it looks brand new!
How do you like it with the reversed control plate? I've been seeing more and more of that lately.

Yes it's in primo shape other than a chip in the paint where the top strap end attaches. It's in such nice shape I was a little skeptical so I took it apart when I got it home and everything looked correct.

I like it a lot better with the switch toward the rear of the plate. Who ever swapped the pick up wired the controls wrong. Both pots acted as a volume for both pickups (not independently). That is no tone control so I had to wire it back to factory spec and in the process decided to switch the controls around. I prefer the volume pot first, then tone control then switch. It's less confusing for me when I switch between different guitars.

Aha, you couldn't leave without the guitar anyway... ( https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=116305 )

Congratulations, it's a beauty - and the mods are a) so common they're almost compulsory on MIM's, and b) a step up. Play on, play LOUD.

Very sweet.

It sounds like the previous owner had been going for Black Guard wiring. So not necessarily wrong just different. You set up now would be far more to my taste though.

Enjoy.

You correct, I was worried it wasn't legit but you guys were able to solve that mystery.

Thanks, I've not heard of that wiring scheme. I will have to look it up, but I agree the traditional wiring scheme is more useful for me.

I've been wanting one this color for some time now. My wife keeps telling me that I don't need another Tele, but I don't think she fully understands my dilemma. lol

Awesome guitar, man. Congrats!
