I think the new Player Series represents excellent value for money (even in the UK) and am considering possibly adding one to my collection. However, I am perhaps a little strange insofar as I think a Telecaster should have a traditional Tele bridge. It is part of what makes it a Tele IMHO.

Is it a straight swap between the bridge used on the Player Series and a traditional ash tray style bridge?

What is a traditional Telecaster bridge for you ? The 3 saddles bridge ?
The Player Series use a 6 saddles vintage bridge.

You want to fit the 3 saddles bridge with ashtray ?
I don't know it it will fit

The original 3 saddle pressed tray bridge is the only one that should be on a Telecaster IMHO. I don't consider a 6 saddle as being vintage. I don't actually want to fit the ash tray cover it was just to describe the bridge I was talking about.

I don't know that it will fit, hence asking the question, but I wonder if the screw and string holes will line up. One part of me suggests they wouldn't reconfigure the machining but then reading of issues with the Player bridges and string clearance I wonder.

The service manual shows a lot, but not the bridge or screw spacing dimensions:

I wouldn't expect any major issues - that's the usual situation with Teles. Check with the chat on support pages, that service is fantastic.

Both being 10-hole bridges, I would not anticipate any compatibility issues.
My Gotoh 10-hole only had slight misalignment on the string through holes, but that's an aftermarket bridge and aftermarket body.
The other bridge that Fender used (11 holes) would require drilling, and I'm not sure a vintage bridge would cover the 3 holes behind the string holes, but that's irrelevant since the Player uses the classic screw pattern.

As for the ashtray being the only bridge for a Tele...

@John Sims Did you find you does it fit? I am considering buying Player Series Tele but I don't want to drill new holes in the body for a new vintage 3-saddles bridge.

A highway one telecaster bridge fits exactly, trust me I did this mod to a Player series last year. There a few sellers out there with them still in stock.
