Do you prefer the top loader style (strings through bridge) or bottom feeder style (strings through body) and why ?

Just curious :?: Discuss...

I prefer a strings through the body. There's more energy transferred to the guitar. As a hobby player, I play quite a bit without amplification. The Tele as is with string through sustains and has enough volume for my quiet noodling.
I don't really care for hardtails. Just a small quirk of mine. I do love a hollowbody with a trapeze tailpiece, though.

I thought I prefer string thru bodies, even though there is not much difference in the sound between my top loading Tele and my not top loaders. I just prefer string thru because thats what my first 6 Teles were, and the 8th and 9th ones too...

I found this old clip of Jimmy Page playing his "top loader" :

1958 Fender Telecaster that was a gift from mate Jeff Beck when they were in the Yardbirds. He used it on Zep 1, and I heard, or read, that he used it on the solo from Stairway to Heaven. I think I also read that the guitar was stolen or lost.

The 2 I have owned

I like the looks of the back of the tele. It's like... plain all the way (other than the plate)... until... Boom! Six circles in a row... unintentional?... I think not!

Just kidding, but I think string-through adds class.

String-through all the way! Especially on the Tele. It adds to the sustain of the instrument, and it looks clean, too.

i just got a cs showmaster ,strings through the body , i like the guitar and understand ,as stated before the action difference ,however for jamming and lessons my MIM esquire is my favorite guitar ,i also love my EJ but like my cs's it doesnt leave the house ,so the answer to your question is bridge strung.

Interesting responses and reasons for which they like better. Keep 'em coming and Esquires and Nocasters can be included too. 8)

my inexperience has shown through .upon inspection of my fenders they all appear to be strung through the body .the only guitars i have bridge strung are the gibsons, so i guess my answer is changed .my focus has been on learning to play and maybe mechanics will come latter

Are you modifying one or just looking for general info?

I haven't played a Tele with a Bigsby, but I used to own an archtop that had one. Just an awful time. To quote something I read the other day, they are the "go out of tune lever." They are neat if they are properly maintained. Good for just a hint of occasional vibrato.

Thanks!

Do you know if factorybuilt guitars with Bigsby is more a ''out-of-tuner'' then one with a Bigsby you have installed by yourself?
