I have a solid body Telecaster, as well I just bought an American Deluxe Ash Tele and I noticed that the body is composed of three separate pieces of wood glued together. I am really not impressed by this.
I feel that this shouldnt really make much difference in sound, but still, it does not look that great and as well it would make the resale, in case I should ever choose, quite low.
Why would Fender make their American Deluxe guitars look like Squires?

Feeling quite let down.

Cost.

Sometimes you can have three top quality woods that might sound and look better than one piece of crappy wood.

The wood will still be good quality, to have one larger good quality piece will cost more get hold of and you'll be the one paying for this. With three pieces you get all good quality wood at a reasonable price. If it feels and sounds good why worry about a bit of mismatching grain?

Having a glued joint in the wood has some affect on the tone, but if compared to the effect it would have on say a Martin acoustic, it's practically nothing.

my AVRI '52 is also made in this fashion, didnt know it was a potential problem.
Saw how Les Paul's are made on Discovery Channel and they all also appear to be made from 3 pieces of wood.

There's no potential problems, most 3 pieces i've seen are really well made/matched. Sure 1 pieces are great but a large piece of wood is expensive and very rare. As far as having an effect on the tone I would not be worried. Like mentioned above a 3 piece can sound as good if not better then one piece.
peace, love,
p.

Also with most finishes you can not look and tell how many pieces the body is.

I have been practicing with a Squier for 2 years now. I really want to upgrade to an AM Standard Tele. I want something in a solid one piece ash. Of all Teles I would expect the AM Vintage 52 RI to be one, but apparently not. Are the new AM Standard available in a one opiece ash? - they do cost an extra $100 for ash instead of alder.
