I just bought a gorgeous used Tele billed as a 52 Reissue, but I'm having trouble confirming the serial number on the bridge plate (57617) in the Fender database. There is no prefix or year. Nothing is on the neck plate. Also, my research suggests all AVRI 52s have a Blonde finish but that it's possible Fender did a few "special runs" in other finishes, including 2 Tone Sunburst. The RI guitars don't have a Made in the USA stamp on the headstock like the Standards. I don't see any other country of origin markings.

What do you all know about these special runs? Is there a way to confirm what guitar I have? I don't think it's a fake, but I could be fooled. All I know is the guitar sings.

Here are some other clues that may be helpful:
- modern wiring w/ 3 way switch
- Fender Telecaster decal above lacquer on headstock
- 21 frets
- smaller neck than other Teles I've played, but I can't confirm the radius
- white pick guard, chrome bridge and tuners
- came with a vintage tweed case
- case includes the red "Genuine Tele" card w/ a different serial number (58750) and a couple of part numbers (one for a Tele body, one for a Tele headstock)
- case includes vintage cable, replacement 6-string bridge
- case includes a card from Fender's Custom Shop about lacquer care, dated 2002

Welcome to the forum...although probably due to the delay you will never return and never read this.

Documents are probably easier to fake than guitars so I wouldn't put a lot of value on them. You also get a lot of the same documents with cheap Fenders so quite easy to swap across.

Decal above the lacquer is actually a plus on a vintage (I resist the temptation to say reissue as the purists will or wont agree). I would expect cloth wrapped wiring but this may or may not be the case as Fender has a fluid approach to authenticity.

Photos would be a great help.

Mystery solved. I finally figured out I could just call Fender's Customer Relations. They were able to confirm that this is a 2007 American Vintage 58 Tele Reissue in Sunburst. They made about 75 of them for West Coast dealers.

I'm so relieved and thrilled that this guitar is legit. In my opinion, it was a great deal for such an amazing guitar.
