I've had mine for 40 years. About 15 years ago I replaced the stock maple neck with an Allparts neck with rosewood board, mainly because I didn't like the frets on the original. Other than that, no mods.

I have a Squier Vintage Modified Tele Custum...basically the Squier version of a 72 deluxe with 2 humbuckers. I recently put SD Pearly Gates p/u's in and changed the tuners to Sprezel black locking tuners. It's a pretty badass rock machine.

No mods planned for my American, but my Squier has been upgraded more than modified. I replaced the tuners with Fender Gotohs, reversed the control plate, and have an American bridge pickup waiting to go in. It came with an Alnico humbucker in the neck that works for now.

2004 Highway 1 Texas Telecaster. Tossed the stock pickups and replaced them with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders. The stock pickups were okay but the Duncans are better. I also replaced the tuners with Gotoh Vintage Magnum locking tuners. Other than that it's stock.

I own only one Tele so I've kept it stock, though, I'm thinking of replacing the vintage bridge with a 6-saddle model.

Tuning/intonation problems or just for cosmetics?

Intonation - It's not bad, but it could be better.

Also, I think I'd like to try a HB-equipped Tele like Albert Collins' sig model. I wouldn't want to mod my Hwy1 with a humbucker, though.

I'd considered modding my 2001 Highway 1 after I played it a while. It doesn't seem to quite have the twang and bite I was expected. But in the end, since most of what I play is along lines of old style blues and jazz, I left it as is for now.

However, I got a MIM '72 repro Thinline early this year and that does a bit better at the sound the 01 HWY 1 is doing so the mod may be back on the table. In terms of success, the guitar tech I'd use has quite a few years of experience, has probably done thousands of mods and could give me a very good idea of how different pup options would work in reality.

But being a big chicken, I'd probably only go so far as a mod that wouldn't materially alter the Tele so I could always restore it to original down the road.

One of my Teles is an American Nashville B-Bender. I have modified it to be what I call a "7 Sound Tele."

I added a simple on/off (SPST) switch, which controls my neck pup only. I still have my standard 5 positions, but I can add my bridge & neck in parallel, and all 3 pickups in parallel.

I have done this mod to two of my Strats as well.

I usually add treble retention pots to my guitars so they are equally bright at lower volumes, but, my Tele is bright enough even when turned down. I'm thinking I might leave it alone.

Anybody put a treble retention setup on your Tele?

I bought a MIM tele and am now finished modding it.

Installed

Seymour Duncan STl-1 (vintage bridge)
Seymour Duncan Str-1 (vintage neck)
Fender Vintage 3 Saddle Bridge
Grover Vintage Deluxe Safty Post Tuners
Round String Retainer
LP Style Jack Plate
Corona Neck Plate With Micro Tilt
Black Pickguard
Chrome Dome Knobs

This is a guitar I'll never part with it's a keeper.

All of my gear is kept stock. I don't really see much need to make modifications. I think the only reason I would change anything would be if repair was needed.

my am standard is stock, my am deluxe has a different bridge, the flamekaster is a custom build, my nashville tele has a vintage ri bridge and a ri esquire pu in the bridge, and ,my fmt hh set neck has a prs vintage bass neck pu from a 82 prs and a sd pearly gates in the bridge, with push pull pots, so it is bascally a prs set up with a 5 way switch.

I like my guitars to be versitile, and i want to have a guitar to any type of music, so i am all about mods

On my 89 MIJ Tele. I put the 52 re-issue pickups in it, Great tone on this one.
My 94 MIM Tele has Texas Specials on it...Different tone than the 89
My 04 Hwy 1 has been re-fretted with fretwire similar to the 94 MIM
my 07 Baja Tele is All Stock.

If I'm doing a recording, my 89 Tele is my first choice For playing clubs it's either my Baja Tele or the 94 MIM (A lot of times I take Both)

The Hwy 1 is on loan to my other guitarist because he uses Strats most of the time, and for me the Hwy 1 is OK but not my first choice of guitar to grab.

If I'm not using a Tele, then I have my Jazzmaster
