As i said in another thread, i recently bought a brand new Player Series Tele, I've had the guitar for a few weeks now, i'm really liking it! The feel of the neck is great, and the satin back is so nice and silky smooth!! The tone is considerably different than all my hot humbucker guitars, but very clear and sounds great. However, on a clean setting, the volume is quite low, much quieter than any of my humbuckers, but kick to a gain channel or an over drive pedal and it get's loud! Is that normal for Tele?? I'd say going simply from dirty to clean there is a good 40% drop in volume output. With any kinda gain on this guitar sounds fantastic, i'm very happy with it. Just wish the cleans were louder. Also, the fit and finish on the Player is flawless, it's a very well made instrument!! Here's a few pic's of the Tele in my music room....

Beautiful.
Fender really seems to have nailed the finish process on these Player Teles.
If yours a butterscotch that is really showing the grain, or is that a tinted natural finish?

Great looking axe SimpleMan1, looks like we both got our MiM Teles at about the same time, mine is a 2015. I don't see the volume dropoff that you mention. Comparing it to my 2016 ES 339 Studio with Classic 57s, the Gibson is noticeably louder than the Tele at similar volume settings but the bump in volume when I give them some boost/gain is about the same. I took the Tele to a jam a few days ago and had no volume issues on the clean side. Maybe your pups need some adjustment?

CB91710, thanks man, yes it's Butterscotch Blonde, i had not seen one in person so i thought Butterscotch was a solid color, it was a nice surprise to see some grain, it shows thru pretty well!

jim_h, I too have 2 Les Pauls with '57 Classic's in them, one is a Gibson LP Studio the other is a gold top Epiphone limited edition 30th Anniversary Lynyrd Skynyrd signature LP. I set up my amps so that the clean channels are just slightly lower on the clean for playing rhythm, slightly louder for gain channels. With out changing a single setting, the Telecaster will be at least 40% quieter than the LP's on the clean channels, but switch to the gain channel and the Tele actually get's louder than the LP's, wide difference in volume!! Same thing with any pedals too. Don't get me wrong, i absolutely love the tone i'm getting from Tele with some gain, but i can't play back and forth with my band (more like just jam buddies) cuz the clean output is way to low. It's weird, never had a guitar do that before. Basically on a clean channel it's like the volume knob is rolled off 3/4's of the way.

Weird. Since it's a new guitar I guess have it checked out under warranty by a tech who is good with the electricals.

That is a good looking Tele. I hope you get your clean volume problem sorted out.

Thanks for the replies! So it sounds like the gain to clean volume drop is not a normal characteristic of the Telecaster, I guess when I get a chance I'll take it back down to the shop where I bought it and have them take a look at it. I was playing it for a couple hours tonight, as I said before it sounds great when a gain pedal or distortion channel is kicked on. I'm even getting some country quack out of it which is cool too. I'd like to use it with my band a little bit more, I'm coming from a hard rock band I used to play in to more of a classic rock'n roll band with a little bit of country as well, it's new territory for me. The Tele will fit right in.
