Hi everyone, new to the forum.

So I've had a dream guitar in mind for years using a Thinline body as a basis for it. I don't make that much money so I was planning to get a Squier Classic Vibe thinline (the 69 style with the natural finish) and just mod the heck out of it, including swapping the neck. But then I saw this great loaded sunburst thinline body on Ebay...

The seller claimed it was a "Fender Classic Vibe" body. Knowing that Squier'sClassic Vibe series does not have a sunburst thinline model, I thought oh boy, maybe this seller doesn't know what he has! Ended up getting the body for ~$200 plus shipping.

But then I started looking around and cannot for the life of me find another Thinline (Squier or Fender) - that has the same screw-hole pattern on the pickguard as the thinline body that I just bought. Did I just buy a random no-name t-style thinline body?

The auction also claimed it was a mahogany body. Was that true?

I am sorry to be a bother - it was an impulse purchase and I am having a bit of buyer's regret in not doing my research. Would really appreciate any wisdom you could lend me. I am iffy about keeping it if it's not Fender specs since I want to mod it up.

Thanks!

-DK

Three of the PG screws are "off".
Here's one with a matching pattern, made by "SX", looks like the same bridge too.

I found one other example of a '68 that had the upper screw behind the pickup, but the screw by the tone pot didn't line up like this one does.

A pic of the neck pocket would help (there's a subtle thing that most copies get wrong, but can't quite see it in those pics).. As would pics of the electronics and under the pickguard.

Auction said "mahogany"?

No. It looks like Ash or Sen. But definitely not mahogany.

Fender rarely uses mahogany, and it's never been a standard choice for Thinlines.

Is it the perspective or are those ferrules in a crooked line? That would be a strong sign of a non-FMIC body.

I wouldn’t worry about it. If he did indeed put “Fender” in the title you can claim it wasn’t as listed and send it back. I know that’s inconvenient but you can get your money back at least.
