Hello!

I bought online a used Mexican Telecaster (i still can return it). And when I got it the neck felt very cheap. The frets stand out almost 1 mm, all of them. And overall the fret work seems cheap. Also, the bridge pickup has glue on top of it.
Moreover part of the Logo is under the tuner. Which seems like sloppy work to me.

Compared to my Squire Bullet it feels like a toy.

Here are some pictures: https://imgur.com/a/P3CGp2b
What do you think? Is this normal for a Mexican Tele or is there something wrong with this guitar?

Serial number matches the appearance, though a bit wishy washy on the year, either 1996-2006 or 2006-2008.
Given that it is anywhere from 11 to 23 years old, if it has been stored in a dry climate, that can cause the neck to shrink and cause the fret sprout that you see.
That really has nothing to do with the original quality when it left the factory, but it IS something that will cost you a fair amount of cash to have fixed. That is pretty bad and I would not want to play it, but if the guitar was a good enough deal, I'd fix it myself.

The pickup... that could be anything after this many years. Drinks get spilled, children crawl into dad's lap with candy....

You don't seem to be happy with it... I would consider returning it unless you're willing to drop 100+ into the neck.

101% with all of this.

I use this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Opinel-Lombardi-Quartz-Carbonate-Sharpening-Grinding/dp/B00N11NZIE/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1550650745&sr=8-6&keywords=opinel+sharpening+stone to grind back fret sprout. You can hear when they are flush as the sound changes when you touch the lacquer. The ones in the picture are pretty extreme though. I think I'd gently grind them back with Dremel first before finally stoning them.

You certainly wouldn't want to play it as is.

Thank you for your answer. Sorry for my late answer but I thought my thread wouldn't show up anymore, because my post didn't show up after 5 days.

I already returned the guitar. I unfortunately do not have the knowledge to fix the neck.
And even if I could fix it, I wouldn't.
First the deal wasn't that good, and 2nd you're very right, I was overall not happy with the guitar.

I didn't know fret sprout can be that bad. it was almost 1 mm on both sides.

Thank You very much!

I think that was the right approach. If there is something about a guitar that annoys you it will always annoy you until you get it sorted. And you don't want to buy something new and straight away need to do remedial works.

The first post delay on this forum is a real pain and I am glad you came back. Stick with it as it is a really friendly community.
