I agree with what you guys are saying and appreciate the input.

The guitar was listed by the seller as a "Fender Telecaster MiM 2015 W/ Gigbag" in Very Good condition. The seller also claims to have top notch repair capabilities and authorized service for Fender.

Here is what I'm thinking. I started off on this Tele thing thinking that I would build one, maybe a Warmoth, so I am ok with owning a Partscaster as long as it's a nice one. I was surfing around, saw this one and decided to go for it with the thought that I might even end up modifying it. At this point given that I like the guitar and there is nothing horribly wrong with it, it now becomes matter of what it's worth. I just found on Reverb a price guide for 2015 MiM Telecasters, $300 - $410, so I clearly overpaid for what I got. A am going to ask the seller for some money back. Rich states that Partscasters go for about half what the real ones get so I could make a case that the thing is worth only 150 bucks but realistically I doubt that will fly.
Thoughts?

$150 might be on the low side. That 50% ballpark figure would be for something in the $500 range, and it is just a ballpark.
It does appear to be all Fender parts, which helps, but if you paid over $350, then ya, you overpaid based on the condition.
The listing was honest in it being MiM, debatable whether it's "very good" condition though, I might agree with that had the crack not been "repaired"

All you can do is ask, and decide which way to go if the seller won't work with you.

Here's the original ad: https://reverb.com/item/17571131-5011-f ... _sold=true
Now, they really should have known & noticed & mentioned the oddities.
But: mistakes happen to everybody. The real company value comes out in how they correct the glitches.

I think your price reduction plan is OK, since you clearly like the instrument.
The seller has a five star feedback, with a "reverb preferred seller" status so I'd think they would be willing to bend a bit. Will be interesting to see the outcome, so don't sign any gag clause contracts...
IMHO, 350 would be OK, below that a catch.

Ya... I think this is one that Trogly would have returned.
The crack is there in the pictures, so the response that it "must be shipping damage" is definitely a cop-out, or the person responding did not inspect the guitar and is going from the pictures.

I'd shoot them some good shots of the attempted repair and indicate that it's obviously not shipping damage unless the UPS guy tried to fix it.

Yep, that's the ad. I thought it was not available anymore, I can access it through my account but I tried to pull it up outside of that and all I got was a thumbnail. I have initiated an action through Reverb so I'm going to clam up on the details just in case the seller is watching this thread but you can be sure that I will let you all know how it turns out. Yes they have a good record with Reverb but if you dig a little deeper not so steller, check out some of their Yelp reviews. They also have a lot of listings on Reverb.

Rich, I never got back to you on the P90 suggestion. I may end up changing out the pups but for now I'm going to keep it as is and get to know what I can do with it. I have played and American Standard (think that is what it was) with a Seymour Duncan in the neck position and it was quite nice. A friend of mine likes Dimaurzio, so between the three I have plenty to think about .

And if anyone wants to know why I lusted after a Tele (and I'm sure you do ) take a listen to some Duke Levine. Any track on Country Soul Guitar, and the song Beneath the Blue really do it for me.

Well no joy from the seller, Gear Exchange in Oklahoma City nor Reverb. They both said the same thing, I can return the guitar but I can't get a partial refund. Interestingly Reverb told me that I would get a full refund including all shipping charges and the seller said he would waive the restock fee. Rich, you are right the crack is visible in one of the listing photos, I had not noticed that. I opened up the photo, zoomed in on the crack, put a red arrow pointing to it, cropped it, and sent it to the seller but he didn't even react to that, just repeated that I could return the guitar. So all in all he never admitted to any fault in the transaction.

So it then became a question of how much I like the guitar and could I do better on another purchase? I though long and hard about it, even got together with a buddy who has a 2004 American Tele and did a side by side comparison. We really could not see much difference between the two both in the way they played and sounded. So I am going to keep the guitar, my friend agrees with that, at this point it's a known quantity and imo the good outweighs the bad. The only thing left to do now is drop a few negative reviews on the Gear Exchange and Reverb.

Jim

That would likely be my feeling as well.
I hate dealing with shipping, particularly on large items, and will do everything I can to avoid it and find some other resolution.
