Hello everyone,
Just bought a 2015 MiM Telecaster off of Reverb.com last week, I am really liking it. At the top of the headstock is a little decal that says "Deluxe Series", can anyone enlighten me on what that means, if anything?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim, welcome to the forum.

Maybe you've got a Tele Deluxe there, maybe someone else can help you out.

Thanks Steve. A few more details, the guitar has a rosewood fretboard and the vintage tuners which I think are upgrades. The only Mexican deluxe that I have seen is the Nashville Deluxe but those seem to all have three pickups and my guitar has the usual two single coils. I checked under the pickguard just to be sure, there is no routing for a middle pickup. But as I said I really like it, plays great and the slightly softer sound of the MiMs vs the American Teles is also what I like. I have wanted a Tele for a long time but never got around to getting one. It joins a couple of Gibsons - a 2016 339 Studio and a '97 Blueshawk, the Telecaster really adds another dimension.

A couple of pics would tell more than a couple thousand words. And they'd make helping easier.

Yes, probably would. I'm getting tripped up by the 3rd party file sharing requirement, never seen that before. I used to have a photobucket account but closed it a while back, don't remember why but something they were doing I didn't like. Anyone care to recommend one the is free and works on this forum?

Thanks...

Flickr or Imgur seem to be popular.

A whole lot of us stopped using Photobucket a while back.
You are absolutely not alone on that.

When you do decide on a hosting site please be sure to resize your images before uploading.
This forum does not resize them for initial display and then allow a popup to see the whole thing if needed.
It displays the whole thing which makes the discussion threads all wonky to read.
It's kind of an unwritten "gentlemen's agreement" we all abide by to make the site easier to use.
We would appreciate your compliance.

Thank you.

Ok after a couple, no several...make that numerous (sigh) false starts I think I got it. Opened up an Imgur account, uploaded three photos and resized them to 1000 x 750, so how do you like my new/used Tele? My burning question is what does the little "Deluxe Series" decal mean on a 2015 MiM? Looking around, I don't seem to see it anywhere.

Trying a couple of options, Dropbox and Google photos. In both I can insert a link, "google assigns a "shareable link" but when I preview the post it shows up as an icon with the word image next to it. I don't know how that will display if I submit it, does anyone know if it will show the pic? I'll try it here:

{img}https://drive.google.com/file/d/1G9PKmRC_r66R2_QzOnQGdMIO0QMeYRWu/view?usp=sharing{/img}

Shareable links from Dropbox, Flickr, Google Photos, etc... don't work.
The forum's IMG code requires that the link be in the format {IMG}ht^p(s)://www.photohost.com/Bla_Bla/Imagename.jpg{/IMG}
The image file extension must be present.
I'm not sure what all formats are valid, but it seems like JPG, GIF, and PNG are all OK.

A little more about the guitar, it looks like it has had very little use as the frets show almost no wear. The ends were a bit rough, I filed and polished them and they are now nice and smooth. The neck is good, action low, and no buzzing. There was one issue though, a hairline crack at the corner of the neck pocket that was not described in the Reverb listing. The seller, a dealer in Oklahoma City was less than cooperative, all they offered was to accept a return which would have cost me almost $200 per their return policy. They said the crack was not there when it left the store and that it was shipping damage. I said that could not be the case because someone attempted a repair by applying a bead of what looks like superglue to the crack. I don't think this is serious and if you google search for similar cracks you find that they show up quite often on Strats and Teles. Couple of photos, one is the area under 10x magnification with a jeweler's loupe.

Larger images are fine... there's no need to resize that small, and particularly when looking for details that may help with identification, larger images are very helpful, just don't make them 1900x2400 :D
Now...
For MiM, I see Guitar Center has a Deluxe listed, but it does not have the extra neck decal, and has a traditional vintage bridge with 3-piece brass saddles.
Your decal does look the same as an example of an MiM Nashville on Reverb... but it too has an "ashtray" bridge, with 6-piece saddle, but still the Tele style saddles and not the block saddles used on the Player series.

For starters, go to the Fender support site (link at the bottom of the page), create an ID (it's separate from your Forum ID, and go here: https://start.fender.com/serial-number and input your serial number.
If it's a 2015, that will give you a description and image of what that guitar should have looked like when it left the factory.

I have suspicions that it may be a "Partscaster" made from a Deluxe neck and a Player body. The serial number will tell us more.

From 1,200 up to maybe 1,400 pixels wide should be OK.
Ideally a pic should be large enough to see some detail but not so big that it throws the page display out of whack.

I usually go 1,400 and I haven't had anyone complain yet.
I achieve that by running 200 DPI and resizing to 7" wide.

You'll get the hang of it.
Nice looking rig.

Thanks Rock Star
More massaging, the photos are bigger - now 1000 x 750 give or take a few pixels.

Well CB91710 you nailed it. A check on the serial number says that the neck came from a Deluxe Nashville Telecaster and the player body sounds about right. But aside from the crack the guitar is quite nice. Very clean, no nicks, a couple of fine scratches, plays great, sounds good...was it worth the $444 that I paid for it? I guess that's the next thing to do, price Partscasters. I have no reservations about giving the seller some s#![, our previous exchange ended up unresolved and I haven't left a review yet.

If you like it is all that matters.
Generally, a Partscaster is worth about half, if built from genuine parts.
It hurts... I've got a couple of Partscaster projects going that, by the time they're done, will be well over what a US made Fender would be, but this way I don't have to worry about shipping a body, and the custom painter doesn't need to strip or prep an existing body.

Honestly, given the body routes, I'd slap a P90 in the neck of that bad boy and make it an LP Jr killer!

You like the guitar, so this may sound harsh, but here's my humble opinion - apologizes if I "call your child ugly"...

What was the guitar's description on the original reverb ad? (Did a search, but did not find it on reverb.)
I mean, if the seller sold it as a MIM original (BTW, if the body is a 2015 model, it's a Standard, not a Player model, but do we know the body's age at all?) and the guitar turns out a Partscaster, I'd say a "dealer" (I read that as some professional guitar shop..?) doesn't have much to oppose if you want to return it, for a full refund.
IMHO, anyone calling him/her/itself a pro should have seen it's a partscaster, and made a note of the crack.

I'm usually not worried about minor neck pocket cracks, but the (bad) repair doesn't really build up trust. And the main question: did the guitar somewhere along the line suffer so much damage that the original neck broke and the body cracked? For a Tele, that would be a helluva crash, they are bulletproof.

For an original MIM the price you paid follows the reverb level - locally MIM's in the US could come cheaper. For a MIM partscaster, it's IMHO high. And if you want to sell the guitar, you get a cracked-body-partscaster price.
MIM Teles of about the same age are not rare, so my advice is to confront the seller for a return/refund and buy another.
