A friend of mine did some mods to his Tele and reversed the control plate when he re-assembled it.

It looks a little "off" but still sounds great!

Bill Kirchen encouraged me to do this years ago. I find it's easier to reach the knobs for volume and tone swells.

Here's a picture I took of Bill's "Coalburner" in February 2007

If you haven't heard of Bill, do a youtube search and find his live version of Hot Rod Lincoln. It will change your life! :D

Its a fairly common mod, and standard on the Squier Vintage Modified Teles. Personally I never liked it as I prefer to have the pickup switch more accessible, as I tend to change pickups while playing and rarely need to do volume swells...

I second that. If I need to do swells, I just use my volume pedal anyway. In my opinion its easier and you have more control.

Although I just checked, it seems to me that I remember that the Muddy Waters Tele used to have this mod. I see that version no longer exists. Does anyone else remember this?? :?:

I reversed mine on my Squier Tele just for kicks. It's not hard to do and it's easily reversible.

The mod is quick and easy to do. I did it and then switched back. It was interestinb but not of any real use to me. It got a few double takes though.

When I bought my Tex-Mex used, the seller had flipped the control plate, and also put on a white Strat switch tip rather than the usual Tele black tophat.

I played it like that for years before I even noticed the plate was reversed. Here's a pic, if you look carefully you can see the white switch tip is towards the butt of the guitar instead of the other way round:

It's just what you're used to. I've since switched it back and added a tophat, but no big whup either way.

i did that on my mij tele a long time ago. the wires were long enough so i could do that without any real work. it keeps the switch out of the way. it was neat for awhile then it went back to stock.
