I’m looking at a Tele for sale in a local shop and I have a question or two I’m hoping someone here can clue me in. I looked up the model in one of the Fender catalogs and it’s supposed to only come in transparent blonde. Also supposed to have a bypass in the tone switch. The guitar I was looking at was a tobacco burst and no ‘click’ in the tone knob when you turned it up full. Made me think someone stuck a 60th Anniversary neck plate in another model. But, when I went looking for pics there seems to be other 60th Anniversary Teles our there in colours other than the blonde with a legit looking neck plate. I checked the serial here and it came back as a 2011 American Standard Telecaster. It can hardly be profitable to put a fake neck plate on a USA standard, could it? What’s up with this guys? I’m not hugely knowledgeable on Telecasters, so I can easily be missing something. Someone please lluminate me, thanks.

Hi MarkDB, welcome to the forum.

Well in 2011 there were a few things going on. They were doing a limited edition 60th Anniversary Tele for the whole of 2011, that is the transparent blond model. And they were also doing a series of guitars called the Tele-Bratation models, they made 500 of each and staggered their releas over the months, these were different colours and used different wood for the bodies. Now aswell as that they were putting a 60th Anniversary neck plate on all the American made Teles of that year so maybe some of that explains it for you.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. It makes what I see when I search the serial# on this site make sense. Apparently I'm eyeing a 2011 American Standard with the 60th Anniversary neck plate, and that's a legit combo for the model year.

Cool, this is a really clean player's tele I'm looking at, I think I'll make an offer.

Cheers,

Mark

There were 60th Anniversary Telecasters with different finishes. I bought this one, which if I remember correctly was exclusively sold through Guitar Center/Musician's Friend.

I don't think it had the Delta Tone control system but it has been a while since I had it.

Did you buy the one you were looking at?

If it was exclusive to one musical outlet it would have been an FSR. While this will have a degree of exclusivity as a result it can't really be claimed as an official Fender anniversary model. A very sweet looking guitar none the less.

Yeah, you're probably right, John. I don't remember too much about that Tele except that it was American Series based while the official Butterscotch Blonde Black Guard 60th Anniversary was based on the American Vintage line. Then there were the 12 Telebration models to confuse us even more. That's where I found the keeper of the 60th Anniversary Teles for me, a Lite Rosewood.

The Strat's 60th Anniversary in 2014 was better organized. There were specific models for the American Standard, American Vintage, Custom Shop and the Mexican Classic Player lines.

My number one tele is a 60th anniversary telecaster circa 2011. The blackguard. It is very light like the early 50s models and sounds incredible. Most of these models were exceptional players guitars. It was probably the best year for telecasters in the last 20 if you wanted something new with a traditional sound. They went all out on quality. A lot of people complained about the stickiness of the nitro finish but after a couple of months of playing that all goes away. I own 3 telecasters, one from 2012 with rosewood neck and my 1974 Tele Custom. The 2011 is my fav.

Hi all, I too am looking for a little help on a used tele (Black) purchase that is claiming to be a 60th.

However I have a few concerns.

There is no 60th neck plate just plate
The serial number Z6135764 which points to 2006? The fender DB just shows it as a "American Telecaster"

The only thing that makes this a 60th according to the seller is a small circular plate on the back of the headstock?

What do you think?

Speaking of this topic, I bought one of these about 5 years ago and have been very happy with it, except that there is a slight bit of discoloration of the clear coat finish near the bridge. It was the subject of an earlier thread and may or may not have been due to the strap, but at least it hasn't gotten any worse.

However, I'm still not sure if this is a transparent blond or butterscotch blond finish (I think it is the latter) - can anyone confirm from the photos below? Thanks.
