Hey everyone, I've been looking at the Fender Telecaster for some time, and I'm considering purchasing one. There's only one problem. I play many genres of music by myself, but the group I'm playing in leans toward grunge, punk, and... metal. I know Tele's can coax a good sound for grunge and punk (Kurt Cobain occasionally used one, and of course Joe Strummer did) but aside from John 5 no metal player I know uses one. Does anyone have a suggestion on a Tele model or really any other Fender guitar that can handle harsh metal playing?

P.S. I've tried the J5 Tele, and it can get the sound I'm looking for, but the feel of the neck is all wrong for me. It really slows my hand down. The guitar store I played it at only had one, or I would have compared it to another one. Maybe I had a lemon neck, but you never know.

I got a MIM tele and use it for a metal sound. I like it, but it isn't the darkest tone... I also have a Digitech death metal pedal... I guess I haven't tried for the dark tone yet though...

Try one of the Baja Telecasters with the twisted tele neck pickup.

:D Anything possible with Fender, dude!!! I used to have Strato but I sold it now I'm also think to purchase another Fender type and now I fell in love with Tele models, I play old scholl rock n roll and lots of blues, I think Tele fits with it but sometimes I play Heavy... no worry Fender fits with all kinds of music, dude!!!

I just gave my Son a MIM Tele and must say it is very nice. I myself have a American Tele and it is the best player I have.
