Hello! I have an 2000 MIA Fender Telecaster and I am having an issue with the pickups or the pickup selector. Or maybe both.
Lately i realised that the pickups have very low output volume so i adjusted their height, it kinda got better but not too much, but today i plugged my tele and the pickup selector is not working. It sounds as it would be stuck in the middle position. I checked if they are working with a screwdriver, tapping them a bit. When placed in the neck position, the bridge pickup does not make any sound when tapped. But in middle and bridge position both pickups make a sound when i tap them. And i am not sure what the actual problem is, if the pickups or the selector or both. I have never changed the pickups or anything inside the guitar, its original just as it was when i bought it.
Has anybody had this kind of issue before? Any idea on how to solve it? Anything helps so thanks for answering!

If you have no experience, the sensible way is to take the guitar to a pro for a check & repair.
The symptoms point to wiring issues with the switch (could be just dirty, could be broken, could be solder joint related), but that's not the only possibility.

One thing you could safely DIY: spray some lubricating electronic contact cleaner (the good brands depend on where you live...) in the switch, and check if there's any difference.

Hi, Standard switching arrangement is - when the selector switch is placed in the neck position only the neck pickup is active (tap pup to check for sound, (note a magnetic tipped screwdriver should NOT be used). When the switch is central the neck and bridge pups are active. When the switch is towards the bridge only the bridge pup is active. Your description indicates that the switching arrangement is correct.
Regards, Ross

I would take it to my guitar tech if you are unsure as how to troubleshoot.
