Not sure I love the change from solid black to black pearl. What do you think?

I hate pearl and this has not convinced me otherwise. I'd be swapping to black in an instant.

I generally love pearloid. But the blackguard is such an iconic look on that finish, it's hard to imagine anything other than solid black looking correct.

So another "no" vote.

Which model Tele is that? If the stock blackguard is vinyl and you feel the need to make the guitar "a little more special", maybe consider black Bakelite. Original vintage spec, looks "proper" from a distance, but close up it looks a little different than vinyl.

Or black anodyzed aluminum. Again looks proper from a distance but a little different up close. (The anodyzing wears off easily and can leave your fingers dark and grimy, so take that into account.)

Spot on the money. Black single ply all the way.

I'm another who loves pearloid and I use it almost exclusively on my guitars.
In this case, I want to like it but I think it might be one of those things that has to grow on you.
If it was mine I'd leave it on for a while to give myself time to adjust to the look of it but my first impression is that it's some kind of mismatch; I think mostly due to the fret markers being solid black.
First impressions aren't always correct though.
I'd give it time.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The blinger the better, and that pearloid makes that Tele yours instead of just another BsBg.

And to whom it may concern; YMMV.

Also thinking that it's possible it's not different enough.

Red pearloid, gold pearloid, even green pearloid might go really well with butterscotch.

On butterscotch, black pearl looks like a failed attempt at black. But a really uncommon choice looks intentional.

This.
I love pearloid. I have white MoTo on my S-500, and briefly considered black pearl for my white AmSpec.
But on that beautiful butterscotch Tele?
No.

From the moment the OP wanted something different we must respect his decision - even though black pearloid destroys the overall look of the instrument.

It is indeed his guitar and he should do what ever makes him happy...even if (respectfully) he is wrong. ;-)
