There are people who will tell you they have no problem with the intonation compromises inherent in a 3 saddle bridge.
I am not one of them.
If they are the straight kind it's out, particularly the D/G pair..
If they are the compensated kind, only the D/G pair can get close because the offset is reasonably close to what is required there.
The E/A & B/E pairings are equally compromised regardless of straight or compensated, because the offset is too much for those pairs.
I've never found a set where one is the normal offset and two others at half normal offset, which would be much closer to what is required and might even be livable.

I guess the question is, are you the kind of person who can tolerate that setup constraint?
By your own admission you've not much experience with Teles.
You're used to Strats with individual saddles.

I'd like to make a suggestion for your consideration.
A bridge with 6 brass saddles.
They're out there.

I found this pic on Amazon of all places and the price was pretty low; low enough to justify buying just to rob the saddles and put them on your bridge.

I have an uncompensated bridge on my other Tele and it doesn't give me any issues.

I am intending to modify this one with three compensated saddles but modify them, with a file, so the peaks that the strings rest on match my current intonated 6 saddle configuration.

The bridge you suggest is a 4 screw conventional six saddle bridge. I have a three screw top loader so this wouldn't work.

My main issue with these saddles is the string pressure isn't even on the two posts, because the string isn't evenly located between the posts, so you can end up with one post barely touching or even floating. This is more acute because of the top loader configuration as there is much less downward pressure on the posts than when strung through the body.

And at the end of the day its a Tele and Teles are meant to have three saddles ;-)

Well, brass anyway.
My point was that you could rob the brass saddles from the cheap bridge and put them on your existing bridge.
That said, there are other options as well.

Armadillo makes a variety of bridges and saddles and the bonus is, the plates and ashtrays are brass as well.

Either way, it's your guitar.
It was just a suggestion as I said, for your consideration.

Sorry, I'd missed that. A very sound call and, if my three saddle adventure doesn't pan out, I shall give that a go.

I have been looking at the compensated saddles and, too the most part, they look wrong for the intonation as I have set currently. I might just get conventional brass saddles and file them myself.

I've built stuff myself when I couldn't find something I wanted.
I'd love to see your result when finished if you do go that route.
Trying to imagine doing it myself, I suspect filing to an appropriate point might be a little on the tricky side but not impossible and it might be worth a try.
I suspect the difficult part would be getting a consistent radius for the strings to go over.
Something that works well and still looks consistent across all 6 tangents.
A too-sharp radius might be a string breaker.
Also polishing the file marks to something consistent with the rest of the finish so it isn't blatantly obvious you did it yourself.
Again, not impossible but I'm guessing it might require significant time and effort.
On the plus side you'd have something unique and worthy of your pride.

[quote="CB91710"]It is almost sounding like a Squier/Partscaster.
What years were OTC necks available from Fender?

I saw some in a UK shop in 1982-3 when I bought my Squier JV srrat new ,They were tagged as such with a Fender tag.

I was referring to replacement necks sold by Fender with Fender decals, such as are available today. Apparently Fender had offered them off and on, and at some times offered them only as replacement parts to authorized repair centers.
I'm not aware of necks being available from Fender in the early 80s in the US. Regardless, seems that your Tele is legit.

After further digging I am pretty certain that is the case.

New back plate and saddles fitted and I am very happy for what was a £15 upgrade. If only all mods could be so cost effective.

And I have the original stowed away so that I can reinstate it should I decide to sell.

It would seem that the three hole configuration was used on the American Standard for a period - Typical Fender change stuff for no good reason aside saving one screw on each back plate.

I now find myself pondering:-

https://glendaleguitars.com/bridge-plates/ which, once delivered to the UK, would be far from a cheap mod just because I like the traditional Ash Tray type bridge configuration. I shall sit on my hands for the present.

Should I go the original style plate I will need to drill out the back to convert it to a top loader just like the good ole boys did back in the day.
