Hoping that someone from Fender can answer but any advice is welcome. Browsed the forum for a while and didn't find an answer. Are standard mim teles routed to take a humbucker in the neck? What about the special edition ash tele in butterscotch blonde? Saw a bunch of stuff on other forums but thought this would be the best place to ask.

Sorry, I can't help you.
I do not have a MIM Tele in my collection.
Excellent question, though.
I will also be interested in hearing (or seeing) the answer.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Actually, there is no right answer.
As far as I know most MIM Standard Telecasters are routed for a neck humbucker, but not all of them.
And for a 'special edition' (Limited Edition, FSR, Dealer Select etc.) models, those usually follow the specs for the base model - but not always. On these, you can only be sure if it has a factory stock neck humbucker...

So, check the individual body you're after, or check the specific model (& model year) specs from Fender Consumer Relations (email or the wonderful chat service, both via the support pages).

A scan of eBay and Reverb for Telecaster bodies confirms the validity of JM's comments - Not that I was in any doubt, I was doing the exercise before you posted.

Thanks for the replies. I took JMs advice and emailed Fender support. They got back to me today and answered. He said the Teles I’m interested in are routed for humbuckers. Looks like there is a chance I’ll be buying(and modding) my first Telecaster. Thanks again.
