Hi guys,
I (re-)started playing guitar about a year ago - so first of all sorry if I'm unaware of some obvious things about Fender guitars.
Back then I bought a HSS Elite Strat. Pretty expensive for a beginner but it was thought as kind of motivation (which worked, btw). I played (and bought used) a couple of other Strats (AMS, Deluxe, Pro, Squier CV) but my Elite is still my favorite guitar. Main reason is the shape and the radius of the neck/fingerboard which just feels right for me.
Since I always wanted a Tele I took a look at the 2018 Limited Edition American Elite Telecaster. Although this model is supposed to have a compound radius (which it probably has) the neck feels somewhat chunkier. Besides I had to realize that I am not a big fan of the neck finish. This somewhat 'pronounced satin' feels a bit awkward for me.
Anyway - great guitar but this isn't for me.

Any suggestions for a Tele which comes close to my Elite Strat (neck-wise)?

Thanks.

Hi Ekki, welcome to the forum. I know what you mean when you say about a neck that suits you just right but can't advise you on what would be like your strat neck. I'm sure someone will be able to answer your question.

You could check out the American Deluxe Telecasters from 2010 on; those had the compound radius. A Satin Urethane finish (on the Elite, or the Deluxe) is not a big problem; it can be buffed shinier.

But IMHO, a "same" neck might not feel as right on a Tele as it does on a Strat. And I ain't alone on this; e.g Jim Root's signature Strat & JM have a compound radius, the Tele doesn't.

So keep testing, you'll find the right one. One hint is to try both ends (vintagest vs modernest radius & embellishments), that'll at least drop off the least desirable candidates.

Thanks, guys.

Besides I got a bit tangled up with the term 'compound'. 'Compound radius' = fretboard while 'compound back shape' = neck shape. I was referring to the latter.

Lesson learned: buyin a guitar over the internet doesn't always work. So I'll go to a local music store and take a look at their Teles. And if it plays/feels right for me I'll buy it. Pretty old school. ;-)

Hard to come by but you could try the select series.
Most are modern c as opposed to the elite c to d.... :D

Theoretically the 2 necks should be very similar.
According to the service diagrams they are the same compound C to D shape with depths of 0.82" at the first fret, 0.89" at the twelfth.
The only apparent difference with the Limited Edition Elite Tele is the satin nitro finish, the standard Elite necks are satin polyurethane. Perhaps it's the neck feel due to the finish that's the problem.
