Scored a nice craigslist buy on a Telecaster with a humbucker in the neck and single coil route in the bridge.

I am slowly building up several eclectic Tele projects to cover all types of territory and musical types.

Already got:
A stock Fender Wide Range equipped ‘72 Tele thinline.

A stock Single coil equipped Squier Tele thinline (excellent for chimey reverby stuff, but not overdriven)

Currently in project form an Ash bodied Tele that will have Seymour Duncan Jerry Donahue in the bridge and a Dimarzio Twang King in neck. I believe this will be a robust sounding Tele in the end.

Now this new one! The pickups in my parts drawer to snag from are mostly humbuckers being Dimarzio Super Distortion, Dimarzio Dual Sound (splittable super distortion basically), Dimarzio schb dp106, Duncan Jb, Duncan ‘59 neck position, Gibson 490r neck.

Only bridge single coils I have are a Strat Texas Special and Strat Seymour Duncan SSL1. I have a middle position from a 1980 Strat as well.

Any magic I can work out of this stuff? Or should I plan on routing and do a dual humbucker guitar?

I really like the Duncan '59 for a neck pickup. It has a good, well rounded tone, hot enough for a nice breakup, but not as hot as the "Jazz" or Duncan Distortion models.

You'll need a super 4-mega pole 5-way switch to split/tap the neck humbucker.

Alternatively you can use the standard 3-way selector with an S1 switch.

The Dimarzio schb dp106 is a single coil sized stacked humbucker from the Area line.
Might be a great fit w/ the 59' in the neck, at least it should fit w/o buying something new!
It should be paired w/ 500k pot unless you want a darker tone.

Yeah I just happened into this pickup not knowing much about it. Im pretty unfamiliar with Dimarzio single coils so I googled the dp106 for quite some time. Love that it’s humbucker sized with the Sun logo on it!

Best reference I read was: 1980’s pickup that “Sounds as if Larry put together two "Class of '55" single coils reverse polarity from each other”

I did read that some Tele players liked them in the neck spot.

If it’s that Vintage sounding Im wondering if It should be saved in case I ever do a Strat project. Idk

For a Police-era tone an onboard active preamp with out-of-phase switch and distortion pot is a must. Not sure if you intend building an AS clone. :|

I've read that Andy Summers got his much-modified '63 Custom as a gift from Eric Clapton.
