You are right , it look not a 1999 neck logo if I look carefully in my 1999 Frontline.

J Mattis may be right ....as usual

My book ( another  ) Six Decade of the Fender Telelcaster , by Tony Bacon, page 98 show a 1991 sunburst American Standard telecaster maple neck with same spaghetti logo show in Flashback_Band picture.

And with same saddles and tuning machines.

Yes this is what started my hunch that it may be older. It's got Schaller Tuners on too. Could be Gunmetal Blue too as the Aquamarine ones I've seen do seem "brighter"?

It's a good mystery!

Many thanks. Any chance you can send your other image of the 1991 Sunburst one, so I can compare?

You guys are so helpful, thanks!

I've found this 1993 Tele gunmetal blue

It's exactly like mine...so could I have bought a 1990 Tele instead of a 1999 one..??

Computer screen lies a lot, but my guess would much rather be the Aquamarine (brighter) than the Gunmetal (darker).

I checked the Traditionals. There really was a series called "American Traditional"; end of nineties (1998 or 1999) to early 2000's - and despite the name, pics of the series look like a typical MIM. Doesn't show on the Fender (US) price lists of the time, so it was probably for export only.
Despite the logo being similar to this guitar, other headstock features here (maple cap) don't fit the American Traditional series, so this Tele here is something else.

So let's wait what Fender has to say.
Meanwhile: the neck does have the Micro-Tilt™ feature just like the body, right?

Yes it does have the Micro Tilt. It definitely is darker; that's what first caught my eye. Here's another picture not taken in sunlight

I've done a lot of comparisons online Aquamarine vs Gunmetal Blue and it is definitely more Gunmetal.

I did think American Traditional but it doesn't have the American Traditional writing on the headstock and the Fender logo on mine is silver and not gold

Sorry to be a buttinsky, but is there no date on the heel of the neck? How about date codes on the pots?

I have seen something somewhere about the serial number being on the front versus the back, but that's the internet for you, not always accurate or true.

Apologies again, just trying to learn something, returning to lurk mode.

The '50s decal on the American Series line was introduced in July 1995, followed by a Delta-Tone pickup system in 1997 and the universal pickup rout in late 1999.

No the neck didn't have a stamp on it, just a handwritten name and a very worn bit of paper with what looks like a code 57105 on it - exactly the same code as seen on the 1st main image on this page here. The neck has lined paper attached with that 57105 or 50715 code on it exactly the same

http://www.fretnotguitarrepair.com/repair/electric-guitar/neck-angle.php

I'm not sure I really want to look at the pots or take it apart even more when everything tells me it was just simply mismarketed as a 1999 Tele and I've just benefited from that.

The serial numbers Fender used during the 1990s were mostly left-overs from the early to mid-1980s.

Good news. I spoke with Fender and based on our discussion, photo examination and review, they conclude it is a 1990 Gunmetal Blue Telecaster. Everything stacks up and let's just say I'm very happy.

(BTW, the pots in there now are not CTS ones so had no dates to help)
