Basics also include wiring schemes.

S-1 switches, toggles, push-pull pots, 4 & 5-way pickup selectors and modern tone circuitry generally cater for guitarists looking for more versatility in their playing style but also tend to loose the traditional "twang" you might expect from a Telecaster. Stick with a 3-way pickup switch, master volume/tone controls and avoid that fancy stuff.

You read my mind.

I've already given up on the 5 way concept as I don't want to loose the classic Tele tones by adding all the bells and whistles.

I'm going with the standard 3 way and I've made up my mind on the Tele set I'm going with.

I've decided to go with the Lollar Vintage T for the bridge and the Royal T for the neck.

I went back an forth with my top 3 and decided on these.

They're on order and should be installed and ready to go by Friday if everything goes as planned .

The 5-way switch is more useful with a Nashville configuration; can also be used on a Telecaster with a humbucker placed in the neck position to cut the outer coil for a more traditional single-coil tonality.

VERY cool looking Tele right there CF.

After my son and I discussed it, we both felt is was better to leave it as is and go the traditional 3 way.

I'm really looking forward to getting the guitar back with it being set and the Lollars installed.

I'll post some pics, and maybe make a short video of the guitar in action.

Would be very glad to hear some tasty James Burton chops as he's the only artist to date to be associated with the instrument since his Elvis days in the 1970s.

My guitar tech just sent me a pic of the the Tele with the new brass saddles, Lollar Vintage T in the bridge, Royal T in the neck, and the mini toggle series switch.

I'll pick it up later today and put it through it's paces, but the tech said it plays and sounds amazing.

Can't wait.

Looking good!

Having lived in the '70s, I kinda dig mini-toggles.

But curious why you chose that instead of a 4-way switch or a push/pull pot?

Some Tele control cavities are a little too shallow for some push/pulls -- far better to mod a replaceable control plate rather than mod the body. But most folks nowadays would have opted for a 4-way switch for series.

Well SS, my son is going to be using it too, and after going back and forth on which set up would be better, we settled on the toggle switch.

He thought it be a quicker to hit the toggle than pulling a knob, so I agreed .

My son is picking up the guitar later this evening, and I should be able to audition it later this evening.

Didn't like the tophat on the switch?

Seriously, it looks great and probably sounds good with those Lollars.

Thanks vinyl.

No I didn't mind the tophat switch at all.

The tech asked me if it was ok to order and whole loaded control plate for the guitar.

He said the other one control plate was loaded and wired for the EMG's, and he could order a new one ready to
go.

I said it was fine for me and told him to go for it.

The guitar does sound amazing with all the upgrades.

The Royal T neck pickup looks like a single coil-sized humbucker.

With the mini-toggle you can switch from series to parallel or vice versa.

This mod makes for a very versatile guitar.

I guess it does look like a SC humbucker, but it sounds like a thick strat neck pickup.

The series setting is just killer.

I love the volume boost I get plus the accentuated mids and more bottom end.

Gives the tone a nice kick in the $@!.

Love the new setup on this guitar.

Lollar recommends combining the Royal with a Vintage T in the bridge for spectacular results.

Yours came with the 3-wire option, hence's the reason for the series/parallel toggle.

The 3-wire mod works best with a 4-way pickup selector.

Kinda sorta of a Jerry Donahue pickup configuration.
