Like my alliteration?

I was extremely lucky to run into this AMAZINGLY well kept '85 MIJ Pink Paisley Tele at a pawnshop today.

After some serious haggling, I was able to score this killer guitar well under the going rate for an '85 MIJ Paisley Tele.

This guitar is all original except for the EMG's, which will be replace in the very near future.

This guitar is a true closet classic, as there's hardy any visible scratches or dents anywhere on the guitar.

This must have lived its life under a bed or closet for most of its 33 years.

The guitar feels and plays great with a very comfortable neck.

Sweet score!

I'm curious where they stuck the battery for the EMG's?

Thank goodness they didn't rout a battery compartment in the back.

They didn't .

I didn't even try the guitar at the shop.

I got such a good deal, and I knew I was going to yank the EMG's out, the it didn't matter if the guitar made sound or not.

I got home to try it out, and it wouldn't play at all.

I thought the battery is dead so I opened up the control cavity, and there was no battery connected.

I tried installing the battery, but there was no room for it to fit.

I did connect the battery and the guitar does play with it connected, but there's just no room for the battery to be installed.

I'm assuming who ever owned this guitar must have given up on it once the installed the pickups and found out the battery wouldn't fit.

This is most likely why this guitar stayed untouched for so many years.

Wow. The EMG's were a blessing in disguise.

I'd denigrate the original owner's intelligence, but at least he was smart enough not to hack up that beauty.

Yep.

I'm pretty sure the installation of these EMG's are what led him to finally let it go.

They were a blessing for sure. :D

The body must be routed on the back in order to install a battery compartment.

Thanks CF.

I figured that, and that's not happening.

This is why I'm going to research a lot of Tele pickups on youtube, and then try to make my best educated guess as to which one's I'll be the happiest with.

I know sometimes it doesn't come out the way you want it to, but I'm going to give it a go.

Very nice score.

I know it's a moot point, since the OP is not going to use the EMGs, but you could use something called P3 Power, and not need a battery, and therefore no battery compartment. Just a TRS jack in the guitar.

Hmm... I see some room under the bridge where a battery route would fit  Seriously, on any other Tele it could have been installed. Props to the previous owner for not hacking up this beauty.

Nice score.
Pink paisley and EMG's don't mix anyway I hear it, but it's an original idea that fortunately didn't go astray.

I am VERY happy the previous owner did not hack up this guitar just to get the battery to fit in the control cavity.

I'd have been really bummed about that for sure.

I really don't think I'd keep the EMG's in there even if the battery fit and the EMG's were usable.

The guitar just doesn't look right with those pickups installed in it.

The EMG's (sorta like Lace Sensors or Texas Specials) are pretty much love/hate pickups. But I share your view that not battery hacking a Pink Paisley was a blessing.
Congrats, a real beauty - and from the best MIJ era.

A funny thing about these Pink Paisleys... Everybody seems to like and admire them, but they're very seldom seen on stage. (J. Burton as one exception, though.) But that's of course good for the buyer.

You're right J.

I personally haven't seen a Pink Paisley Fender Tele on stage myself.

I'm not sure if guys own them and don't want to play them, or they're just not confident enough
to hit the stage with a Pink guitar.

I guess the less they show up on stage means they're not getting played too much, and the better shape they'll be in when the get sold.

Well, a set of Texas Specials would fit the bill to perfection.
