Sorry to hear about that, mac67.

I usually keep my guitars in gigbags when they're at home, but I always use a hard case when I take them out.

Same here.....they are as safe as they can be at home, but out there??? who knows....
Sorry to hear the bad stories, although nothing like that ever happen to me, a friend HAD one of those PRS fancy guitars, it was not high end but it was cool though, carrying it to a gig with his gbag, strap broke when he was getting on stage (tall stage!), the thing got the neck broken when it hit the ground. My friend even cried, never got it repaired

It could be very easily repaired--it would be worth checking it out.

I always use gigbags for my electrics. But I inspect the bags regularly and I take the shoulder straps off as soon as I get them. I always carry by the handles. In more than 15 years of gigging I have never had one malfunction.

Think so?, I dunno much about that, I can tell you the way it broke looked like the gutar was totaled. It was like in a 35 degree angle or something like that across a huge section of the neck, almost where it reaches the body.... chipped out and all of that.... Is that easily fixed? I dunno much about repair and all that....
My friend told me he took it to the local repair guy who in turn told him that it could not be fixed...
If it was fixable it could have been a scam from the repair guy, Ill just make the comment to my friend to revive old memories, maybe Ill see him cry again, jajajajajajajaja....No just kidding

The operative word being "COULD." I haven't seen it--but it depends on how the neck breaks. My classical had the headstock snap off completely--and it was fixable--and it plays great again.

As long as the break wasn't too clean, and your friend has a ll the pieces, it COULD be possible--it may not be, yes. You didn't mention he had somebody look at it.

But it is amazing how much damage a guitar can take and still be fixable.

But if it's been checked out and it isn't--that's different--I'd ask for a second opinion--maybe post a picture of the damage.

Ouch Brother, I feel your pain. although Tele's do look cooler when they're a little beat up. But you want that from honest gigging not bouncing on the pavement.

I personally have never used gigbags. At best they will protect your guitar from scratches. But in any kind of serious impact they are useless. I know the hardcases cost more, but you gotta protect your instrument.

Riding a bike with a hardcase is challenging, but it can be done. It all depends on how motivated you are.
