San Antonio, TX. I hadn't thought of a craft store! Good idea. I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it here! I've been here since 1999. I love the music scene all across Texas. And the food is fabulous. My love of Tex-Mex has contributed to never ending weight-gain...

Sorry, can't help much with your local current sources - last time I've been to San Antonio (we called it 'Saint Tone', for obvious reasons) was around the Bicentennial...

Quick edit: in addition to those carpenters/cab makers etc. already mentioned, guitar makers/shops could have a piece you need.

That's looking pretty rough. I'd sand it down to bare wood and refinish it. I just got a new Tele, and immediately replaced the neck with an unfinished Warmoth neck, and used Minwax Wipe On Poly on it. Came out looking like a factory finish. Should you decide to go that route, just poke around on Youtube for instructions.

Because my neck was unfinished, it had no headstock decals on it. Easy enough to find good Fender decals online. Or, if the decals and finish are in reasonable condition on your headstock, you could leave the original finish on it, and just give it a light sanding (800 grit) and apply several coats of poly on top of it.

I used the gloss poly, and then used some 1000 grit wet sandpaper on the back of the neck to take the shine off it and improve playability. Used rubbing compound on the headstock to get some pretty shine on it.

Never been there, don't know anything about them, but sounds like it might be a good place to start. They have 1/2"X3"X24" maple for about $11.00

They might give you some advice about finishing, too.
