Hi guys, currently I have decided to buy a new fender guitar but having difficulties to choose one. I have 2 options, which are Fender Baja Telecaster and Fender 50's classic player Stratocaster. Now this is my first fender guitar but I have done a lot of research and chose between these two (I also thought about buying Highway 1 Texas (Tele) and American Strat, but I figured I would go with something unique) and I love both guitars. I understand that telecaster and stratocaster are two different kind of guitars, but for blues, rock and jazz, I don't think it matters whether to get tele or strat. Another factor that I can't decide to get is that the prices are identically the same (Musician's friend = $799.99), and finally they are both great guitar! I did hear the tone of both guitars from youtube and they are both awesome. Unfortunately I cannot go to a guitar store to try them since they are both custom and I have to order them from the store, so I do not know how their necks are (for I've read from articles about both guitar, they are exellent) and their cosmetic. Here are some of the factors that I'm thinking of before buying -

1. No matter which guitar I get, the sounds and pickup I prefer one that is distinct from other guitars such as American standard. I love the twangy bright sound so that I can play on Blues, rock and Jazz (although I think you need quite opposite from bright sound for Jazz) and a guitar that I don't have to upgrade to.

2. A decent quality guitar - I want to get a guitar that can last at least for 5 years. From when I first started playing guitar, I always bought low quality guitars and they last me about 2 years max. I'm sick and tired of trading back and losing money, so I have decided to get a solid guitar that I would like to keep for awhile (and that's why I have decided on these fine guitars to buy).

3. Staying in tune - If you are blues or rock players, you know that sometimes you gotta use your tremelo or bend the strings to have distinct sound. Some of the guitars I played had many difficulties staying in tune, and goes out everytime I bend or use tremelo.

4. Neck - from what I heard either you love or hate the V neck. Problem is, I never grabbed on a V neck before, so I do not know what to expect. I have small hands so I know most of you will suggest getting C-shape neck (which I tried playing from my friend's strat) but I want to give it a shot. Also bending strings and solos are my preference to play on guitar, so I would prefer to get a medium-jumbo or jumbo size neck.

Well, that's about it that I could think of right now. Now this doesn't mean I'm only sticking into Baja or Classic 50's player, I would love to look at other products before buying. The cosmetic and the colour doesn't really matter but I like 2 - tone sunburst, and Maple neck instead of Rosewood (I had bad experiences with rosewood). Very important factor that I must list is sound of the guitar. I don't care if the guitar is banged up or have tons of scratchs and dents, I'm those weirdos who strongly believe that the sound of guitar is most important part. So look doesn't really matter to me. If the guitar sounds nice and smooth, that's all it matter. The sound that I'm looking for is something that is similar to Clapton, Buddy Guy, Muddy Water(like I said, something bright and twangy) and something round (Stevie Ray Vaughan), but I really want to have that smooth jazzy sound. So please do suggest and do not hesitate to give me another option. And if you do choose between these guitars, please tell me why you chosen them, so I can take them into consideration before buying them. Thank you!

It's my opinion that you can play blues, or any kind of music with either of those guitars. Don't forget that your amp and any processing gear that you may be using will also have a huge affect on your overall sound.

The Baja Tele, designed by Fender CS Master Builder, Chris Fleming has a nice vintage vibe and sound, soft "v" neck and the twisted tele neck pup has great clarity.

The 50s CP Strat has the Fender 57/62 pups with the middle RW for some nice "quack" sounds and also has the soft "v" neck. Position 4 is bridge and neck instead of the standard bridge and middle. (Of course this can be changed if not wanted.)
