I was recently filing down the fret ends on a Standard Telecaster. It left some minor scratches along the neck. I'd like to try staining and finishing these small areas and wonder if someone can suggest a stain/dye/lacquer for doing so. I'd be especially interested in products offered by Fender, but I do not expect they offer such products. I was by ReRanch and could only find their Amber finish which is a bit dark for my neck. When I checked my whitesheet it does not specify a stain color, only:

1 0037431000 Neck, Tele., Mex M/N

It is a cream finish, so maybe there is a default neck stain that goes along with the body color.

Thanks,
Matt

1-Pictures are a must for right answer
2-Number on neck is not useful, giving serial number on guitar to find year may help.

For finishing products , see Stew Mac .Fender don't sell them

As Stratele52 said, the part number doesn't help. Mexican necks range from light tint/no tint on the Standards to dark tint on the Classics. (Even water-clear finish will darken/yellow bare wood a little.)

Fender doesn't stain the wood directly. The tint is mixed into the finish.

As far as I know, all Mexican necks have poly finishes. Even on the models that have nitro body finishes.

That complicates things, because the new finish won't melt into the existing finish.

You might be better off just sealing the bare wood without trying to get a perfect match. Wipe on a couple of coats of Birchwood-Casey Tru-Oil. It'll stick to the wood but not to the existing poly.

Thanks for the response. I wanted to include pictures of my own neck showing the damage I'm trying to repair, however this forum doesn't seem to offer an 'attachments' option. The picture below is what my guitar looks like (by neck color at least). If someone can match a product to refinish small spots on this type of neck, that would be great. Also, the Serial Number for my guitar is: MZ7305993.

Thanks,
MattSA

I'll sort of agree with strayedstrater here, just do a protective fill on the bare spots.
But I don't use Tru-Oil on guitars, so my options would be (depending on how big & deep those marks are), super glue or clear polyurethane. Clean the wood well, sand old poly edges, do multiple thin layers, level and polish till perfect.

If you absolutely must do a bigger job, I'd suggest you strip the whole (or whole back of the) neck and either go Road Worn® style or do a full refinish.
If you won't take that (IMHO, easier) route, contact Fender Consumer Relations (via the support pages) and see if they help with the tint (& guitar) specs. (And/)Or get some Reranch/Minwax products and experiment with the tint on scrap wood.
Or mix poly paint to clear poly (adding one drop of paint at a time to a dl/half-a-cup of clear, test and redo), and do a DIY tint. (If you are even the slightest bit OCD, this way is really painful).

BTW, AFAIK there is no "Cream" color on Fenders, the one you posted (and most likely your guitar, too) are officially "(Something +) Blonde".

The pic posting on the forum requires your own pics need to be uploaded to a website, after that the procedure is the same as with that pic you posted; get the pic address (starts http, ends jpg) and use the IMG command.
