And one that looked great but didn't play well enough to keep.

aside from the logo decal being wrong and not being string through, there is no truss rod plug. It would be walnut on the USA teles (including US Highway 1's) and black plastic on the MIM teles. Fender does not do "no plug". Even the 50's styles with the truss rod at the butt still had a walnut dumby plug at the headstock. The tuning keys also look incorrect for the series. The jack plate is not correct either.

I don't think the headstock is even quite the right shape.

It kind of looks like a kit Telecaster by Saga or Alston. I used a kit as a starting point for my custom build but I keep swaping out the junk parts for original Fender made parts. Still not quite as good as my 96 MIM Standard but I've upgraded all the electronics to USA parts complete with orange drop and cloth wire. Since this picture was taken I've upgraded the bridge to an Fender ashtray style with the cover. Next is pickups, maybe find some used MIM's. For those wondering, yes, it would have been way easier to just buy a Fender but what fun is that!

The headstock is the right shape, more or less.

Thanks! It's blocked and decked for dive only. I don't care for floating Floyds either.

That is the nicest back I have ever seen on a telecaster.

Really nice guitars, folks. 8)
