This may be a Fender forum, but I'd venture to say that most here are fans of guitars in general. No need to hide the LP. In fact, over in the lounge there is a post "Let's see your guitars 2", and I'll bet a pic of that LP as well as any other guitars you'd like to share would be more than welcome there.

You make a good point. Here is the guitar my son chose on his 16th. b-day.

Nice! Looks like he made a good choice! That's a beautiful Les Paul. Thanks for sharing!

I'll pass that along to him ES, but I have a feeling he will pass on your offer. :)
On his 16th. birthday, I set up 6 guitars and said to him, "happy birthday, take your pick." He chose a 1967 Les Paul Custom. Now that he is older and wiser, he keeps hounding me to trade the Tele for that Les Paul. LOL

I was going to post a pic of the LP, but this is Fender's community.

I would have taken the LP Cutsom over the tele too.... But I am partial to Les Paul Customs.. My first guitar was a 1973 LP Custom and my main axe that I own today is still a Les Paul Custom...

Tell him to keep that les paul... Don't trade it for the tele...

I agree, no Custom LP should be traded for a Tele. No offense to Telecasters; they are great and historical, but for the craftsmanship and type of materials the LP has my vote.

I purposely waited to reply, because I wanted my son to read some of the input that I felt he would receive regarding his choice of a 1967 Les Paul Custom.

Thank you CajunBlues, TTSC, & Tim for your input. I happen to agree with all of you. The craftsmanship and materials used on that particular LP Custom is far superior to the '59 Tele that he covets.

I sometimes wonder if I did him an injustice by giving him his choice of 6 fairly rare guitars on his 16th. birthday. (The Tele was not one of the six) He has fallen for the trap, that only old guitars are good guitars. I think we can all agree that every manufacturer has had good eras and some eras, they would rather forget. The country of origin is also a concern to him. In my opinion, another trap. There are some wonderful guitars coming out of the Ensenada plant in Mexico. Granted, not all, but a pretty high percentage. I have been impressed with the Mexican guitars I have played. He used to look down on my CIJ strat, because it came from Japan. I believe his opinion has changed on the CIJ strat once he & I put a Custom Shop strat side-by-side and did a comparison.

With regards to the guitars Fender is making today, in my opinion, "the good old days...are today."

This is my first guitar project. Started January 2010. Hand painted with brush to get that wood grain look finish. Body: Poplar, Pickups: Neck-single coil Vintage alnico, bridge: Humbucker hot wound vintage alnico. Tuning keys: Gotoh, body custom made from a vintage 1958 Broadcaster template. I ordered the template from Ron Kirn. You can find him at www.ronkirn.com.

I'm new to the Forum and have gone through all 48 pages and have enjoyed some beautiful Telecasters. But I haven't seen an '83-84 Telecaster. There weren't a lot of Fender guitars produced in those years, a time when Fender contemplated moving all production to Japan, prior the employee purchase of Fender from CBS. This is generally known as the "Dan Smith era".

Image

Image

While the American Standard Stratocaster suffered the loss of a tone knob and its unique angled input jack during these years, no such abominations occurred to the American Standard Telecaster. During '82 and '83, for those two years only, Fender used the beautiful '83-84 Schaller Top Loader Bridge and Saddles.

So here is my blond '83 Telecaster with a 12" radius neck, a three color white pearl pick guard, replacing the original single color white pick guard, with recently added Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Pickups. This was my first Fender electric guitar, which I've owned since 1983.

Highway1teleboi -- I suggest you read the first posting on page 1 of this thread which governs the scope of this thread, which is broader than just Telecasters.
Sorry to burden your eyes, dude.

For 2011, the 60th Anniversary of the Telecaster, Fender is releasing 12 different USA-made Telecasters that span the spectrum of Telecaster styles over the years, from classic designs like the Rosewood Telecaster, made famous by George Harrison in the ’60s, to modern classics like the Cabronita Telecaster.

Some of these models were previously available only as Custom Shop models. Every month starting in March, 2011, a new USA Telecaster model will be released in issues of 300 to 500 guitars world wide. Pre-orders are now being taken and will sell out quickly. These Limited Edition USA (non-Custom Shop) 60th Anniversary Telecasters may be viewed at the following links:

I Pre-Ordered this USA, Antique Burst, Flame Top Telecaster with gold hardware and pearl tuning machine keys, from Fender dealer near my home yesterday!!! OH YEAH!!!

Image

Check with smaller Fender dealers and avoid the large chains if you want one of these Telecasters. Only Fender Dealers who agree to purchase one of each of the 12 limited edition 60th Anniversary Telecasters will receive these guitars each month to sell, so not all Fender dealers will have them. Check around, and if a Fender Dealer is not carrying them, ask if they know who has them. That's how I found mine.

I will post actual pictures of my Limited Edition Flame Top Telecaster when I receive it in March or April.
OH YEAH!!!

Hi Bobby. Go to Photobucket.com, establish an account and upload your pictures. Then copy the IMG Code which is the bottom code associated with any of your photobucket pictures in your album. Insert the IMG code where you want it in your posting. That's it.
