just checking if anyone knows, i pickup up the guitar a couple days ago. are the 58 reissue tele pickups not RW/RP. I don't know if i noticed earlier, there more noisey than other fender pickups ive owned and don't cancel the hum in the 2 position. i tried wiring it 5 way ala bill lawrence, and i was getting static electricity pops in all 5 positions so i returned it to stock. also I'm kinda puzzled, the neck pickup seems microphonic, i thought wax potted pickups eliminates that problem. I ended up ordering some pickups any way but i just want to make sure theres nothing wrong with the stock ones.

What is the story of the guitar ? A second hand ? Modified ?
Noise can come from;
1- A bad soldering,
2- Ground missing or bad contact
3- Defective pickup

Fender didn't start using RW/RP on Teles and Strats until the mid'80s. So accurate reissues aren't RW/RP.

'50s neck pickups weren't fully wax potted. The coil assembly was dipped in wax or lacquer, and then the cover was put on. So an accurate reissue neck pickup will be slightly microphonic.

At a guitar store, I A/B tested both the AV'58 and AV'64 Telecasters when they came out on the same amp that I use, with the same settings.
I also own a 2009 AV'52 Tele.
At the time, I did not like the '58 pickups, as they were much weaker sounding than either the '52 or '64 pickups.

This perception was also confirmed by another very knowledgeable Lounge member a while back, who had experienced the same thing.
I cannot comment on the cause of your static or electrical interference.
However, the problem that you are experiencing gives you good reason to replace the '58 pickups which are in my opinion, "substandard," regardless of their possible historical accuracy.

The AV'58 Tele is otherwise a very nice guitar.
I would think about a set of Custom Shop ’51 Nocaster Tele® Pickups.

I put a set of those vintage 58 pickups in a custom built Tele that I had made. I guess it’s all purely subjective of course, but I’ve had zero issues with these pups as far as noise and being microphonic. And I truly love the tone that comes from these pups.. again, it’s all purely subjective to each player.

Certainly don’t settle on something you’re not happy with.
