Hi, all. I'm about to get my third tele (early Christmas gift from me to me) and I can't find any info about the potentiometer values that it comes with. The guitar in question is the "Fender Special Edition HH Maple Fingerboard Standard Telecaster Sea Foam Pearl" on sale for $499 at GC/MF right now. Anybody have one of these or know what pots it comes with?

All HH telecaster wiring diagrams I see use 500 K pots like all guitars with humbuckers should.

Yeah, that's what I was hoping. I couldn't tell because the modern player teles with a humbucker in the bridge have 250k pots, so I figured I'd see if anyone could confirm.

This is the service manual for the Modern Player tele: https://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Orig ... A_SISD.pdf

I think you misunderstand my intentions here; I don't have the guitar yet, since none of the retailers around me have them in store. It is being shipped currently. There's frustratingly little info about the guitar from Fender besides the marketing material, and I also can't find any demos of it online, so I'm pretty much trying to deduce what the tone will be based on the parts it has in it. Essentially, I really like brighter sounding humbuckers that you'd find in 80's style superstrats and the like, and 500k pots are going to be key to that.

And yes, I know it's a cheap part to replace, but I'd like to know if I'm going to have to switch something out before trying the guitar and feeling disappointed with the sound, you know? Especially since replacing a pot is much more of a pain than switching out a pickup.

Right, I'm aware it's an HSS. I was simply saying that this was enough to cause me to question what this guitar might come with stock.

This seems like it has turned kind of aggressive. I just wanted to know if anyone had this guitar and could give me some answers. Thanks for your help but I don't think I need to justify why I bought something to you.

...To confuse things a bit further, the MIM Standard Telecaster HH has a 500kΩ vol pot, but a "SWITCH POT, SOLID SHAFT PUSH PULL 250KA" tone pot...

On this Special Edition HH, my guess is the same as st52's; 500kΩ on both vol & tone. It doesn't have the split option like the regular one, so there would be no apparent need to use 250's.

But to be sure, wait till the guitar arrives & take a glimpse under the hood, or contact Fender Consumer Relations via the support pages.

And BTW (this written softly, not aggressively...), nobody can tell beforehand if you prefer 250's, 500's or even (gibforbid) 300's...

Sorry if my question look to you agressive, I don't want. I'm Canadian french speaking , I may use some "shortcut " when I write.
I'm just curious why you want to buy this guitar, I may learn something from you.
You may like the color wich is not available on other Strat and it is alright to me.

We talk about volume pots wich may change tone of the pickups because of the load / impedance.
Short speaking ; Tone pot don't do that. It could be any value.

About a HH guitars, look at any HH guitar wiring *and you 'll see 500k pots
A HSS need 250 K pots because of the two Single coil pu.

A HSS will sound better with 250K than with 500K with the Humbucker on the bridge position = bright

Jmattis, that makes sense. As stratele52 pointed out, the tone I'm going for is more dependent on the volume pot than the tone, so I'm just going to assume it's equipped with a 500k. I'll find out for sure on Wednesday!

And you're right about not being able to assume my intentions, so apologies for that. And apologies to you, stratele52, for misinterpreting your reply as something it wasn't.

To answer your question, though, I've been seeking this one particular tone that I get from an Epiphone S-600 strat copy that my dad has. It's got just this super aggressive and full tone that I love, and I've picked up all sorts of guitars over the last couple years to try to get close to that; Epis, Gretsches, Les Paul copies, Tele Deluxes. So from that I've learned that I'm looking for a.) 25.5 inch scale length and b.) non-trem bridge. And I absolutely love the Tele body shape, so this seems like a good fit.

I'm pretty comfortable with modding stuff, so I'm probably going to experiment with different pickups once it comes in.

Fender may have found a lost box of Blacktop electronics.
My guess is pickups are Korean Booheung with 500k pots.

At this low price, it must be a very heavy guitar made in Korea IMO

I see some ( not this particular one ) at Guitar Center, very very heavy, not usable to play long time like the real good American made.

That's actually a made in Mexico - not that it would matter a lot. A Standard Tele, but SpecEdition embellished electronics and color.

On that Booheung comment (which is probably true), note that also current MIA's have Far East parts. Ping ping here and a ping ping there, E-I-E-I-O...

Hi nickdbot do you mean one like this?

Image

This is an MIM FSR (Factory Special Run), it sounds good to me, you can blend the pickups so you can get some interesting sounds out of it. I've not a clue what pots are in it but it sounds great as it is.
