Been looking at used MIM Telecasters online. Most good or excellent condition Teles are listed for $400 or more, regardless of year. Today a 1992, 1996, 2006, and 2011 are all within $25 of each other. What years are best? I may just skip used and look for a B Stock or Open Box deal for $475-500. Advice?

I concur.
When it comes to MIM, newer is typically better.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

2006 was some kind of a divider; pickups/frets/shielding/neck finish etc. changed - and to better/to worse is of course up to one's personal taste.

But personally, I'd concentrate on how an individual guitar sounds/feels, not the birth year. The second hand MIM Std Tele department is so big, you can look for anything you want; a mint original or a modded-just-like-you-would-have.
