Hi guys how are you all?

First time poster and let me say thankyou for this awesome forum full of loads of information!

Ill start off with that i am currently in the middle of building Richie sambora's double neck telecaster, but i am having some troubles with getting the wiring and configuration correct. Im hoping some guru's on here can help me out as the builder im working with says this can not be achieved, but as far as im aware the man himself has had it done??

If you have a squizz at the picture below richies double neck consist of:

TOP NECK: bridge and neck tele pickups
BOTTOM NECK: bridge tele pickup

1 volume, 1 tone, 1 5 way switch, 2x mini switches.

Now im confused on the switches.

as far as im aware richie uses his 5 way switch to switch between his neck and bridge pickups like a standard tele

now, he has 2x mini switches.

1x mini switch for switching between the necks (up position for top neck, bottom position for bottom neck)

1x mini switch for switching the top neck pickups between a series/parallel configuration

i have had fender custom shop confirm this for me, but the local builder i am using is saying it cant be done? he is saying 2x mini switches must be used for the series paralell configuration and the 5 way switch is used for switching between the necks??

HELL TO THE NO? surely not? ive done a bit of research on this guitar and richie uses the switches as i mentioned and fender but i cant seem to produce a wiring diagram or any insight for the builder im working with besides "richie has it done, so surely it can be"

can anyone please pretty please share any insight on this matter, im sinking quite a bit of coin into this guitar and i would hate for the wiring to be all cactus...

i really appreciate the time you all took to read this.

thanks heaps

samborafan

An interesting project, although maybe not sensible...

Have you tried contacting Fender, either Consumer Relations or Custom shop, if they could help with the diagram? As far as I know, it's never been published, but I don't think it's a secret, either.

BTW, your pic is a no-show, as are just about all pics on photobucket. Try some customer-friendly site instead.

Thankyou for your reply, and breaking the ice on this topic!

Definetly an interesting project and damn straight its no where near sensible   I am an avid fan of richie's (owning several of his guitars, even 1 of them signed by him while i attended 1 of his concerts) So this guitar is a must have for myself, not to mention no one ever does double neck tele's. the current market and other guitar players are absoloutely swimming in double neck SG's (my first preference to owning a double) but i just did not want to go with the school of fish and be like everyone else. i thought bugger it double neck tele i havent seen too many float about

I have searched high and low for information regarding the wiring the way richie has his, i have searched forums, rang multiple guitar builders across my state and country, i have researched all diagrams i could. ANY lead i could get my hands on i chased it to the very end.

I am currently in contact with 2x people in Adelaide, Australia. 1 fella having contacts to richie himself through his girlfriend, and 1 amazing fella that can just straight up help with this issue. but its all coming down to $$ now

I have been assured this can definetly be done and the builder im working with must not be very experience in this sort of wiring etc.

I am still however chasing information in regards to this wiring... im yet to see an actual "diagram"

thanks for taking the time man to reply

cheers

You're welcome - sometimes an answer without any knowledge or real info gets a topic rolling, so you got my 'break the ice' target right.

Have you found this page; http://www.roneesclassiccustomguitars.blogspot.com
Quoting: "Two of the most recognized Double Necks being played today. Ronee built both of these iconic pieces of Rock history. Dave Amato of REO Speedwagon and Richie Sambora (with Ronee) of Bon Jovi."
So, the actual builder is Ronee Pena, and this might give you another route to the diagram - just be careful not to stalk.

We used to have real wiring gurus on the forum (warm thoughts to all of them), but these days it seems it's guys/girls/other like me; can solder but not draw the design. If you can't get the original diagram (magicians might not reveal their tricks...), line out what you want the controls to do and go from there. The tdpri.com might help, a lot of Tele/Esquire info is concentrated there.

And: project pics are a good way to arouse interest & answers.

BTW, get a good back trouble specialist in time. Or double.
