I have just bought my first Tele a Richie Kotzen more for the looks than anything else, but i'm thinking about changing the pickups out and fitting a tone switch in as i'm after more of a country sound, does anyone have any thoughts on this or do you thing you can get a country sound out of this guitar as stock, I have always had jazz boxes before this.

IMHO, and speaking generally about any guitar, it's usually wise to give a new guitar, yourself and your other gear some time to get acquainted to each other before major modding - sometimes a few weeks is enough, but sometimes a year is not overkill..
Here, thinking about your jazz box background, I'd recommend a sufficient (= long) running-in period.

On the RK signature, those are really fine instruments - congrats.
Despite the possible limitations the original purpose and design might introduce (at least psychologically...), they are very versatile instruments.
A certain brightness and presence is there, so I'd be surprised if an RK Tele wouldn't bend even to traditional country. Just control the rougher qualities with guitar vol & amp settings and a lighter pick hand, experiment.

Put a compressor and slapback delay in your signal chain.
