Hi all,

Thanks to everyone who responded to my last question/topic! It has helped me tremendously, and I have decided to change out the pups in my Telecaster '72 Custom Reissue. I'm planning on changing to the Mojotone "72 Clone" WR Humbucker in the neck position, and a "Broadcaster Quiet Coil" in the bridge position.

Mojotone's website recommends changing to 500k pots. What's the difference between 250k and 500k pots tonally? Is it worth the upgrade? Would this be something you recommend?

Thanks to all for your help!

Very simplified: the bigger the value of the pot, the brighter the sound (when the pot is full on).

Humbuckers are typically darker in tone than the average single coil so as a general rule humbucker guitars typically have 500K pots to tame some of that darkness. Mixing singles and buckers complicates things a bit.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

And then there are the Jazzmasters, Jaguars etc. with their 1Meg pots...

I thought about that mixing (neck humbucker and bridge single coil) here, but as the OP says, the manufacturer recommends a 500K pot for both - so I'm guessing the "Quiet coil" is some sort of a stacked pickup in normal size.

If the guitar seems overly bright after the pickup changes, there is the tone pot (accompanied with changing the cap value).

And I wanted to keep it real simple...

There are also 50K pots for guitars equipped with active electronics.
